Our Story
The Fibonacci Chamber Ensemble started in November 2024 with violinists Zoey Chang and Melody Wu, cellist Candace Li, and violist Sebastian Li.
“During Thanksgiving that year, we wanted to do something meaningful to give back to the community and share our gratitude through music,” recalls violinist Melody Wu. “Since many seniors don’t have easy access to live performances, we decided to bring chamber music to them,” says violinist Zoey Chang.
In their first year together, the group has played 12 concerts at senior communities around Davis — becoming frequent guests at Carlton Senior Living, University Retirement Community, Atria Covell Gardens, and Galileo Adult Day Care.
“I feel proud when we play for seniors,” says violist Sebastian Li. “They’re always so welcoming, and seeing how much they enjoy the music makes it really meaningful for me,” continues cellist Candace Li.
“People always ask us how we got our name. Before we started this quartet, me, Candace, and Sebastian were actually on a robotics team called Fibotnacci — with a ‘t’ in the middle because of ‘bot,’" says Zoey. "We really loved that name, so when we decided to start a chamber group last year and asked Melody to join us, we just took out the ‘t’ and became the Fibonacci Chamber Ensemble.”
