SPACE ODDITY

Puzzling cloudless starry night

Light years long travels star light

How long is a light year then, who knows?

The North Star, Polaris, is relatively close

Its fluorescent glow needs at its birth

Only three hundred light years to reach the earth

And the pilot at the helm, the steering man, proudly braves

The elements, finds his way through ocean waves

Lead and enlightened by the polestar’s bluish fire

To safely reach the harbour of desire

Puzzling hot reddish planet

Mars hovers in space like a pomegranate

We know no green little men who lurk

Visitors so far were just Mr Spock and Captain Kirk

Mars remains man’s object of foolhardy imagination

Only recently of worldwide aspiration

To settle on its scarred desert surface,

To find water, micro-organismic life, the purpose

So that one day we’ll leave that homely globe

Populating Mars, the ancient war God’s land, they hope

Puzzling space station ISS

Circling round the earth, a big success?

Fifteen times per day orbiting around the world

What are they doing in that high-tech bird?

They say society owes them the Teflon pan

Of which I am no enthusiastic fan

Russia, Europe, USA experiment together

Everybody weightless as a feather

Sometimes they send a woman up to galaxy

How do they make love in zero gravity?
