When you use Microsoft Edge to download a file, there will be a download bubble at the top-right corner. The download icon looks like a bubble and the interface under it will show the name of the file that is downloading, the download speed, the total size of the file that is downloading, how many MBs have been downloaded, and the status of the downloaded file.

The download bubble is also available in Chrome. But this feature is disabled by default. When you use Chrome to download a file, you can see the download bar at the bottom: this feature is automatically available.

Want to enable or disable the Chrome download bubble on your computer? This post introduces the guides in detail. Should you have other related issues that need to be solved, you can let us know in the comments.

In the latest update on the beta build the flag to disable the download bubble and use the download shelf was removed. I personally hate the download bubble in the top right corner. For the past 15 years of using Chromium based browsers starting with when Google Chrome was initially released, as such I have been accustomed to how the download shelf worked, which was itself an evolution of how Internet Explorer handled it. Earlier this year the default behavior with the Chrome 2023 redesign it changed both how the horizontal tab bar and the download location worked to be, in my opinion, worse. I was able to revert both of these changes with the flags previously, however in the latest beta build there is no longer an option in the flags to disable the download bubble and instead use the old shelf.

I totally agree. The download shelf is more useful than the download bubble. It would be SOOO easy to have an option for both if they want to push using the bubble. Removing useful features is SO Google. Blech!

I immediately backed up the "User Data" folder when it happened, and then deleted this folder to continue using chrome, I think as long as it works with the same version of chrome, it can be perfectly restored?

After a recent Google Chrome update, the download panel appears from the top in a bubble, similar to the user interface of Firefox. But many users want to restore the classic download panel that appears at the bottom of the window.

One the changes is the download bubble instead of the classic download bar. The bubble appears at the top in the toolbar, while old download panel was popping up at the bottom. While the updated UI plays well with the new style of the browser, it makes the user to re-train their muscle memory.

Luckily, it is very easy to do. Developers of the browser kept a special option on the built-in chrome://flags page. Before proceeding, I advise you to update your browser to the latest version. For that, open the menu, select Help > About Google Chrome, and you are good to go. If there are any updates, Chrome will install them.

The download bubble is not the only user interface change Chrome has recently received. To match the style of Windows 11, the browser supports the Mica effect for the titlebar. Also, a new reader mode is in the works that allows viewing the regular website in a tab and its simplified version in the sidebar.

no longer works, but i found a fix somewhere on the internet

right click on the google chrome shortcut (the one on your desktop) and go to properties

then in the target field (the first field) add:

 -disable-features=DownloadBubble

 at the end

close chrome and open it back up

if you have a shortcut on the taskbar you might need to remove it and drag the desktop shortcut on the task bar to make a new one that works

I am using Chrime Version 119.0.6045.105 (Official Buid) (arm64) and the option to disable the download bubble has been removed. Looks like this no longer has a work around since the option to disable is now gone.

3. On the Chrome Flags page, you should see a search bar at the top. Here type #download-bubble and press Enter to search for the Download Bubble flag.

Chrome changes a few settings every now and then to make the experience better. While the experience can improve, we can sometimes get used to a feature the way it used to be. Apart from bringing back old features, you can also use Chrome flags to get new features.

I am trying to download a file using selenium webdriver. I have set the download directory and other parameters as well. The same code was working with chrome driver version 116. Since the browser version was updated to 117 the code is now failing as the download prompt shows up. However when I disable the incognito mode the file gets downloaded to the set download directory path. I am using selenium version 3.141.59.

For Chrome users, when you previously (prior to Sept. 2023) downloaded something, a bar would appear at the bottom of your screen containing the file information and status of your download. Google changed this in Chrome, moving the downloads to the top of the browser within the omnibox to an area called the download bubble.

I see, honestly if you take a look on my previous post in this thread in point 6 I am writing about Timing complexity in bubble. In Bubble documentation you can find a mention, that bubble fires the javascripts when the data is available, which from my perspective is not true. So what are you experiencing is something I just cannot handle. The data is being recieved too late or the icons javascript is being fired too soon. Also I have captured, that the javacripts actually fires several times during loading - so my question is, do you see the icon you are trying to call when the whole page is loaded? If so, I would just add condition that the trimming will not be applied on empty value.

Hi! I need to display country flags. I recorded all countries in option sets. Flags, via icon values: emojione-v1:flag-for-japan

I load the data dynamically.

The icon is visible only if the page is reloaded before.

can someone help me with this? I want the icon to be visible without reloading the page.

 - first page load and after reload the page

 - no page reload

Notice the size in Safari is 53x53 px, but for some reason the size in chrome is -2x-2 px. Any help in figuring out what could possibly be going on here would be greatly appreciated! If not, then I may have to switch to another plugin for this site.

Does anyone know how to disable the download bubble in Chrome? I had disabled it a few months ago to move downloads back to the bottom of the page. But in the last update, the bubble came back and the old fix no longer works.

This makes sense: the new downloads notification bubble takes up less space and is not limited by screen width. It feels more modern in terms of the UI. But you can switch Chrome download notifications back to the way they were.

As a constant user of Google Chrome, I believe that the bubble download feature added in recent versions of Chrome was a terrible idea, at least for those persons like me that constantly work with Downloads. The Chrome download bar, which is also known as the "Downloads Shelf", is a very useful user interface element that appears at the bottom of the Chrome browser when you download a file from the internet. It provides on-screen information about the ongoing or completed downloads, as well as the option to interact with the files by performing actions such as moving files, deleting, or opening them, so simple as that.

The Chrome download bubble is a feature that, when enabled, appears at the top-right corner of your browser during a file download. It provides information such as the name of the file being downloaded, the download speed, the total size of the file, how much has been downloaded, and the status of the downloaded file. However, by default, Chrome users will only see a download bar at the bottom of the browser.

Customizing your browsing experience to suit your preferences can make a significant difference in your productivity and comfort. By disabling the Chrome download bubble, you can return to the familiar download bar at the bottom of your browser. If you have any other related issues or questions, feel free to drop a comment below. Happy browsing!

I am automating a RPi for four displays at my company. I have them rebooting every day so the browser will refresh. I can't get the Restore pages? Chromium didn't shut down correctly bubble to not come up. I've tried several solutions that ive found online, but nothing works.

From what I have gathered from personal tests, just changing the "exited_cleanly" setting may not always work at preventing the Chromium prompt on startup. Other flags such as -disable-infobars will also not work.

Google is testing the new design on some users, hence not all users experience the new downloads bubble yet. Now, if you have not received the new design and want to use it, then you can use the steps below to enable it. Or if you have received the new design and absolutely hate it, then you can also follow the steps below to go back to the old design.

When a user visits a site that requests a permission, a bubble pops up to prompt the user to make adecision. For example, below you can see the geolocation permission prompt as implemented in Chromeup to version 96. (You can try this and other permissions on our demo sitepermission.site.)

The existing prompt bubble will be shown when the request chip is clicked (if not already shown) andthe request UI is automatically augmented with the request bubble based on the heuristics listedbelow:

Google has been working on an improved download UI since Chrome 99. The big row for downloads at the bottom of the screen is replaced with a "download bubble" in the top toolbar. Click the icon and you will see a list of recent downloads.

Chrome 111 is continuing to improve this UI with a number to indicate how many things are being downloaded at once. (We don't see the number on our testing system yet.) It's a small but welcome touch. The download bubble is available via two Chrome flags: ff782bc1db
