This page is to help new families better understand the terms used on this site and within the Otter VB community
KSS: Kennedy Secondary School
Gold gym: Main gym at KSS, ground level just inside Door H. Park in the parking lot by the tennis courts.
Maroon gym: Secondary gym that is downstairs at KSS. Enter Door H and go down the stairs.
Silver gym: The far end of the Gold gym at KSS. This space can be divided off when a curtain in dropped in the Gold gym.
Roosevelt gym: Gym space in the Roosevelt building. Park in the large lot south of the hockey arena and enter Roosevelt through Door G???.
JO teams: Spring teams that are formed through tryouts to give athletes opportunities to play volleyball outside of the fall school season. There is a fee to play on these teams. One day tournaments are typically played on the weekends during March and April. Most tournaments are within 60 miles of Fergus Falls.
Open Gym: Gym time led by coaches to work on skills, court awareness, positioning, and basic volleyball knowledge. No additional cost, come when you can.
Monday League: Area schools have worked together to form this league to work on skills through the summer. Grades involved are incoming 7-12th graders. No additional cost but sign up is required.
Blocktoberfest: High School Volleyball tournament that is hosted by the ISD544 for MSHSL varsity teams. It is held on the Thursday of MEA (typically the third Thursday of October). This is the very end of the varsity regular season and a huge fundraiser for our VB Booster Club. We ask all parents to help work taking admission and concessions. Younger athletes that are not playing are asked to work as line judges and at the score table. Typically this tournament runs from 8am-4pm.
Other Tournaments: JO Program hosts a youth (4th grade through 13/14s level) tournament in the spring. Families involved in JO season are expected to help with this fundraiser for the JO program. Summer Breakdown tournament is typically hosted in July - with many opportunites for volleyball families to help in admissions or concessions that day.
MSHSL: Minnesota State High School League, the governing body for high school sports in MN.
