Fats - While some fats are good for our body (Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats), others are harmful to our body such as saturated and trans fat. Be mindful of the ingredients added to your food and limit the intake of processed, fried and full-fat dairy foods. Include in your diet healthy oils like canola or olive, and eat foods with healthy fats such as salmon, trout and avocadoes.
Vitamins - These are organic nutrients necessary for healing, repair, providing energy, and building of body's cells. When taken in moderation and in right amounts, vitamins are essential to overall good health. Foods rich in vitamins such as fish, fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy and poultry helps provide sufficient vitamins to our body.
Minerals - These are inorganic substances needed in small amounts that help maintain water balance in the body (sodium, potassium and chloride); support healthy bones and teeth (calcium, phosphorus and magnesium); and create of new cells (iron). The same is found in fruits, vegetables, fish and low-fat dairy and poultry foods.
Water - This comprises a huge percentage of our body's weight but is lost in usual activities such as breathing, sweating and urinating. it is therefore necessary to stay hydrated since water carries the essential nutrients to the cells and is responsible in flushing toxins out of our body.
Fiber - Foods such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables and legumes contain fiber. It is an important part of our diet and helps reduce the risk of and cardiovascular diseases and illnesses such as diabetes, obesity, cancer.
