Tu from first glance is a sweet kid. She believes in protecting those who cannot protect themselves. However she refuses to take the role of Avatar. She is afraid of what it brings and is afraid of what she would become.

Background

Tu was born into a small village that was between the Republic City (United Republic) and Ba Sing Se. She was always curious about what the outside world brought. She heard from her Father who was the Leader of the village speak to his round table that if it ever got out that the Avatar lived here it would be the end of the village.

However, Tu's Father made it a point that Tu learn the other elememts as it would be Tu's job to protect the village but more importantly the world.

By the time Tu was nearly 8 years old she had learned 3 of the 4 elements. Earth, Fire and Water. At the time Tu could not get a hold of an Air bending teacher without compromising the village's safety.

One night when the village was celebrating Tu's 8 birthday rogue Fire Nation attacked. They demanded to test all children who were around the age of 8. Failure to comply would result in death. Tu's Father tried to reason with the Rogues but it was no use.

Tu's Father along with other Fathers put their children in a line as the firebenders tested the children. Tu noticed one firebender towards the back. He was older and seemed to be fixated on Tu.

As the younger rogue soldier approached Tu he warned that if Tu lied her family would suffer. The rogue took out a bowl of water. Tu looked to her Father and her Father tilted his head up as if to say 'Don't move the water.'

"Tch, this one surely cannot be the Avatar." The rogue claimed.

The older man walked forward and looked Tu in the eyes. He watched Tu for a moment before laughing.

"Avatar Kyoshi is a descendant of yours...what greatness would become of you if you were to be the Avatar," the old man leaned down to Tu and his eyes seemed to glow, "Or maybe I will examine your little sister, see if SHE is the Avatar."

Without thinking Tu moved the water to hit the old man and one of his eyes glowed. His little voice mixed with the past Avatars as he spoke.

"No one will hurt Kyo as long as I live..."

It was then the rogues lunged for Tu, she moved out of the way and ran to her Mother. As the rogues went for Tu's Mother the men in the village including Tu's Father stood in their way. The women and children began to divide as the men fought the rogues.

Tu, her Mother and her little sister Kyo were followed by two young rogues one a little boy like Tu the other an older teen. Tu's Mother looked to Tu with tears in her eyes.

"Run Tu, run and never look back...never."

"But Mother, what about you and Kyo?" Young Tu asked.

"Take her with you, protect her Tu, Kyo be good for Tu, she'll protect you...save this world Tu, go!"

And so Tu did, she ran with fire shooting at her heels. She ran as far as she could dragging Kyo along.

She ended up in the Republic City with nothing to her name. She knew no one and she knew no one could ever know she was the Avatar.

Her and Kyo were adopted by a firebender who loved tea and ran his own tea shop and café named Oziro. He was a widowed man woth no children and promised to take care of Tu and Kyo of they helped with the tea shop.

Eventually Tu told him who she really was and explained how she ended up here. Oziro was reluctant at first but he loved Tu and Kyo like daughters and wouldn't trade them for anything. Oziro has tried to convince Tu to finish her Avatar training and assume responsibility as the Avatar, especially with crime at an all time high and a war brewing from the end of Rogue Fire Nation.

Tu is afraid however of what she will become. Oziro is hoping she meets someone who will change his mind and make Tu see, that she is meant to be the Avatar.

Abilities

Tu has mastered the three elements known to her. As an Earth bender he can bend/manipulate earth, metal and even sand. She has mastered fire and lightning, as well as water, and ice. She learned how to pull moisture from the air and plants around her. She is a considerably fast learner, and can learn things at a very fast speed. She is also fairly athletic and can jump and climb things ordinary people couldn't. She is also an exceptionally fast runner.

Other

Tu learned from her Mother how to fight like a Kyoshi Warrior and also has fans to fight with. She made his own weapon that is a staff, a spear and a glider. She rarely uses it but hopes to one day utilize it. She also has a direct bloodline connection to Avatar Kyoshi and she is her descendant. Though Avatar Korra had essentially cut off the past Avatars this blood connection has allowed Tu some access to past Avatars.
