Wood pegs can be a variety of shapes and sizes. They can be anything from lathe turned wooden spindles to popsicle sticks. Regardless of the shape, there should be some sort of weight at one end to help with the kinetic swing while creating the cords.
Yarn or crochet cotton can really be any sort of thread / floss. Whatever material you choose, it is recommended that you use the same weight for all of the wooden pegs.
Wind approximately 3m of cord onto a wooden peg. Start by affixing the end of the thread directly onto the wooden peg so the peg does not fall to the floor when the thread runs out, and wind over the end to secure it down.
Once the full length has been wound onto the wooden peg, secure the end with a half hitch knot.
Tie a half hitch by taking your final loop of thread and flipping the loop the opposite direction from how you were winding, so the end of the thread is under the loop rather than over.
There are lots of videos on YouTube showing how to tie the knot if you get stuck.
