For the benefit of anyone else finding this topic while trying to determine the last version of LibreOffice compatible with macOS 10.11: Best I can (quickly) determine, I think the last compatible version is 7.2.7.2.

OS X El Capitan (/l kptn/ el KAP-i-TAHN) (version 10.11) is the twelfth major release of macOS (named OS X at the time of El Capitan's release), Apple Inc.'s desktop and server operating system for Macintosh. It focuses mainly on performance, stability, and security.[3] Following the California location-based naming scheme introduced with OS X Mavericks, El Capitan was named after a rock formation in Yosemite National Park. El Capitan is the final version to be released under the name OS X. OS X El Capitan received far better reviews than Yosemite.

After the 10.11.4 update, many users started reporting that their MacBooks were freezing, requiring a hard reboot.[35] This issue mostly affects Early 2015 MacBook Pro computers, although many others have reported freezes in other models.[36] Several users created videos on YouTube which showed the freezes.[37][38][39] Soon after this, Apple released the 10.11.5 update, which contained stability improvements. Apple later acknowledged these problems, recommending their users to update to the last point release.[40]

Synchronization works fine, but I'm missing the Dropbox-Icon (in the sidebar the folder looks like a regular folder) and there is no status icon next to the files either (if the file is being synced, etc).

On my wifes computer (running 10.11) as well all works fine - I'm wondering if this has to do because I have the Pro-Account?!?!

10.11 can only be upgraded to Mac OS 12, Monterey. no Mac OS 13.x Ventura compatibility exists with El Capitan Macs. Conversely, Ventura compatible Macs can't run El Capitan directly, although they may be networked.

If a Mac shipped new with 10.11 it can be updated to 10.14 Mojave direct from the Mac App Store. If it is not running 10.12 yet, but was prebundled with 10.11, it can be upgraded to 10.12 first, then upgraded to 12.0 Monterey if it meets Monterey's requirements on the link.

If a Mac is already running 10.12, and it is older than 10.12, you must format a separate GUID HFS Plus partition to install 10.11 or earlier on it. The reasoning is starting with High Sierra HFS Plus is automatically formatted on SSD and thumb drives.

December 8, 2015: Apple fixed issues with Image Capture scanning that existed with 10.11.0, and 10.11.1, with the release of 10.11.2 at least for the Canon Pixma MX922, and probably other multifunction printers and scanner...

Don't just consider the table having a green circle saying that it is compatible as people have been testing with pre-release versions of 10.11, and may have reported it in there. The only release version of 10.11 tests could have been performed on 9/30/2015 or later.

10.11.2 patches some issues with 10.11 and automatic document feeder scanning from the Canon Pixma MX922, and may help other scanners that no longer had their Image Capture interface for the document feeder.

Also found with another copy of 10.11.2, was the Canon MX922 was automatically recognized on launch, and with waiting for the dialog, it was able to locate the right drivers to download automatically.

Subsequently, I have been testing all my VMs, which all successfully updated to v12. For the most part, my DOS and Windows VMs are working okay, as well as all my macOS except OS X 10.11 El Capitan). OS X 0.11 boots up just fine up to the login screen - but then it fails to find my (Apple extended) Bluetooth keyboard (and sits there until I force a shutdown) nor responds to mouse movements. All other OS X versions before and after 10.11 find the bluetooth keyboard just fine.

Update: I connected my Bluetooth keyboard via USB cable to my Mac as well as connected a hardwired USB mouse to the Mac, then booted up my OS X 10.11 El Capitan VM -- still no success -- the VM does not recognize either keyboard and mouse. (But both work fine on my host OS.) So much for thinking hardwired hardware would solve the problem.

Updated: Well, trying to reinstall macOS 10.11 El Capitan in Fusion 12 failed as well. The installer process started normally, but eventually got to the point where it displayed 2 graphics (cycling between the two continuously) - one showing a Bluetooth keyboard with the power slider switch moving to the on direction, and the other of the Bluetooth mouse with the power slider switch moving to the on direction.

Description of the issue:

I have an old Mac from beginning 2011 with El Capitan 10.11.6 installed on it. Unfortunately, Brave automatically updated and it says that this new version is not supported by El Capitan.

I updated an late 2013 Mac Pro with one Thunderbolt and one 30 inch Apple monitor form OS X El Capitan 10.11.0 to OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 got a black screen with mouse cursor. Option Command p + r NVRAM reset does not seem to make a difference. Typing in username and password does not seem to make a difference either. The below mention policy banner issue does not seem to make a difference either.

i am having the same issue. ran the 10.11.1 update, rebooted and i get a black screen with a mouse cursor that i can move. stupid question perhaps, but when you say "removed the MDM profile" how did you do that without being able to get display?

I got the same thing when upgrading my machine, though most of our early adopter users haven't had the issue. If I let the machine work itself out, the login takes about 6 minutes, but I've lost the ability to move around accounts on the local machine. Didn't see anything like this in my standalone tests of 10.11 Betas and the final releases.

Craziest thing I just got a report from a user about this today happened to them with the 10.11.3 update. "hung up with a black screen, moveable arrow". We jiggered it back to life with some reboots but this is a high profile user who has been gung ho against Casper enrollment and we only recently got them enrolled and they are claiming this was a Casper issue, but it appears to really be an OS update issue.

Just had the same issue when updating my MacMini to 10.11.3 I got the black screen and movable cursor. I thought this was normal so decided to be patient. After about 30 mins I started thinking something must have went wrong. I almost did a hard reset, but decided to get on my MBP and do some research to see if this had happened to others. After reading all the above posts I decided to go back to the MacMini to do the hard reset, but to my surprise the screen was grey with a progress bar doing the upgrade. Be advised this was at least 45-60 minutes after it initially reset. So I assume the update is compressed or something and it is uncompressing the update or moving it in the background while leaving you with a black screen that looks unresponsive. My advise is to just go take a break and come back in 45-60 mins instead of having to go through the recovery process. Hope this helps.

I encountered this problem this morning after upgrading to 10.11.3 as well. Sat at a black screen for a while with a mouse cursor. Unplugged and replugged monitors, rebooted, unplugged power, went into recovery mode, all that stuff.

I installed the GM candidate of Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and my FortiClient VPN has stopped working. It completes the login, but after connection, no data is transferred - the incoming and outgoing freeze. It is a split tunnel connection and neither network or internet traffic works.

I have My Passport For Mac. I called tech support today (10/21) & confirmed it is compatible w/El Capitan. However, I am not upgrading until 10.11.3. Will let everyone else work out the bugs till then. **

It took me a few hours to figure this out today. The latest version of MySQL that you can easily run on OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) is 5.6, because 5.7 introduces a dependency on clock_gettime, which Apple didn't add until OS X 10.12. You can try downloading and compiling the generic 5.6 source code, but it is much easier to install it using Homebrew. The tricky thing though is that Homebrew has disabled 5.6 for lack of "upstream support". So you first have to reenable it by per this post, then install it.

I can't upload to Arduino board.

I get the wrong USB driver (iMac OSX 10.11 El Capitan). My board is UNO with USB driver chip MEGA 16U2. As I connect the board to the computer and start Arduino-software (IDE 1.6.5) I get USB driver: /dev/cu.usbmodem1D11

This driver does not work.

As I used also my laptops in my laboratory at school (Macbook Air OSX 10.11 El Capitan), they work fine. With same print board (Arduino Uno) then I get for the drivers dev/cu.usbmodem1411

Tested with Arduino IDE 1.6.5.R5, Later tried 1.0.6 and 1.6.6 but these version also doesn't work .

Using El Capitan 10.11 I could not connect to Ardunio UNO -- The Arduino IDE (v1.7.9) would compile my code then hang on communication with the board. At the same time a kernel task would spin out of control hanging machine so it appeared to be some problem with the serial driver.

Welcome to the forum, @mbpt! System requirements for 1Password can be found at this link, for future reference. If you're still rocking OS X 10.11 (El Capitan"), you'll need 1Password 6 for Mac. That version will work not only with your version of OS X, but also will still work (for now) with 1password.com accounts. I say "for now," because version 6 is no longer receiving development attention, and at some point, changes to macOS, to 1password.com or both will render version 6 unusable with a 1password.com account. At that point, it'll be time to upgrade your hardware, not just your software/OS version. But for now, you should be just fine. You'll need to download it directly from our downloads page (scroll down a bit to the "using an older computer" section). Let us know how you get on! :) 589ccfa754
