Profile
My name is Juan Felipe Henao Piza. I am an Associate Professor of Management Sciences (MS) at Universidad Icesi in Cali, Colombia. Additionally, I am the Head of the Management & Organizations Department at the Business School, and the Editor-in-Chief of Estudios Gerenciales, a Journal of Management and Economics for Iberoamerica.
In 2002 I graduated as a Civil Engineer from the Faculty of Mines at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Medellin, and in 2005 I gained an M.Sc. in Systems Engineering, with emphasis on Operational Research (OR), from the same University. In 2011 I obtained my PhD in OR/MS from the Warwick Business School at the UK’s University of Warwick. Since 2010 I have been linked to Universidad Icesi’s Business School.
My research focuses on applying OR/MS, mainly Optimization techniques, to energy-related problems. I am particularly interested in modelling renewable energies (solar, wind, hydro, etc.) for both grid and off-grid areas. I am currently interested in studying the effects of new technologies, such as microgrids, electric vehicles, large battery systems, and large-scale renewables, in electricity systems and energy markets. I am also interested in studying the complementarity between renewables and exploring green hydrogen potential for off-grid areas.
