Title: “Models and heuristics for planning drayage operations”.
joint with Daniel Bustos-Coral (U of Melbourne)
Date: Thursday, June 06th at 12h30 (Paris Time).
Abstract: Drayage is the short-haul trucking of containers between facilities such as intermodal terminals, distribution centres, storage yards, and locations of shippers and consignees. Drayage operations account for an important fraction of total costs in intermodal transportation. Effective planning of drayage can, therefore, highly impact the overall efficiency of supply chains. This talk discusses two mixed-integer programming models and an adaptive large neighbourhood search metaheuristic to assist in planning drayage services. These methods allow us to extend the existing literature, enabling the consideration of trucks and containers of any type and with associated compatibility constraints. We discuss the methods' computational efficiency and their applicability in obtaining managerial insights for real-life drayage operations planning.
