The West Mendotan Republic, also known as West Mendota, is a constitutional republic located primarily along the western shores the Mendotan Sea, after which the nation is named. Founded from occupation after the Second Great Prairie War on the 9th of April, 2019, West Mendota has since embraced democracy and republicanism as a legitimate national identity, and has since become one of the most powerful nations in the S.P.N.; controlling the most economic potential, the largest standing navy outside of the United Manonan States, the largest merchant fleet by a significant margin, and the largest economy of any country.
It's territory was originally created from four occupation zones of North and South Garfea in the aftermath of the First Great Prairie War. It gained additional territory when it was ceded by the United Nations Supporting Communism, from which it gained further territory after the Second Great Prairie War, during which it was a member of the Allied Powers and contributed to the defeat of the Catxis. During the period of instability immediately following The Long Recess, West Mendota legally acquired Valentinian Centralia as it's formal territory, with the remainder of ex-Valentinian Land becoming the Valentino Commonwealth.
Culturally, West Mendota is one of the most industrious states in the SPN, known to have, in theory, "almost limitless construction capability." This industry is largely recent, due to the advent of the Patriamic Assembly Line, a streamlining of construction processes which allows industries in West Mendota to produce goods significantly faster than conventional means. Since the inception of the nation, West Mendota has been slowly shifting in the popular mindset of it's citizens, from it's initial view as a creation of foreign powers to being a proud, democratic nation which is seen, and often sees itself, as a protector of Democracy. This view has increased in recent times after the end of the Federation's preeminence in the democratic sphere. Because of these aspects of culture and society, as well as the country's history, it is often nicknamed "The Germany of the SPN." However, due to it's own policy of Manifest Destiny and it's annexation of significant amounts of territory, as well as it's massive industry, democratic apparatus, and military power, more and more observers are beginning to instead draw parallels to another nation, the United States of America.
While initially a small country which depended upon the Federation for the majority of it's defense, the nation became a Great Power after Prairie War II, and thanks to a strong economic uptick in the wake of that conflict, as well as it's vast military capability, it slowly transitioned into one of the Superpowers of the SPN. This position would be demonstrated and affirmed by Prairie War III, during which West Mendota was a member of the Allied Powers. It's government was one of the fiercest supporters of the idea that the war was for Democracy and for the restoration of the Federation.
West Mendota's closest ally on the international stage is, by a significant margin, the United Manonan States, and the feeling is regarded by most as being mutual. West Mendota and the United Manonan States are often referred to as "The Western Brothers," and their military forces frequently cooperate on construction orders, interoperability, and mutual defense, though tensions were strained by West Mendota's scorched-earth invasion of the United Anoka Republic to topple Luke Gainey, which took place on the backdrop of Prairie War III.
The West Mendotan Military is extremely strong for the geographical size of the land it occupies, especially it's Navy. The West Mendotan Navy is considered one of the most powerful in the Sun Prairie Nations, with the possible exceptions of the Federation and the United Manonan States, both of whom are outnumbered by West Mendota.
The West Mendotan Republic was originally formed from three occupation zones, of Despa, the UFP, and Valentino, which were granted independence under a short period of oversight. The FWR also relinquished it's control, and the UNSC also gifted some of it's coast as a gesture of goodwill. Jacob Monday was elected as it's first president, and soon after it joined the Prairie Union.
During the Second Great Prairie War West Mendota was a member of the Allied Powers, and played a monumental role in the victory of the Allies against the Catxis. The Country following the war was given the lion's share of UNSC war materiel, as the remaining allies needed little after their massive re-armament programs.
After the signing of the treaty of Fitchburg, West Mendota signed the Sun Prairie Area Treaty, during the re-establishment of SPATO. It grew as a close partner with the United Federation, and became the second-largest military in the alliance.
