The Federation Government-in-exile, officially the United Federation of Paper Planes but often known as the Free Federation was the government-in-exile which represented the United Federation during and shortly after Prairie War III whilst the Madden 4th Reich took over the Federation. It was recognized by all members of the Allied Powers and was based in Allianta City in the United Manonan States. During the conflict it elected Lydia Guilford as it's provisional President, and it's Vice-President Jackson Deminsky was appointed Supreme Allied Commander during Operation Downfall.
Founded on January 3rd, 2022, the Government was originally made up of 8 members; John Banks-George | Ethan Flood | Carson Clumpner | Jacob Monday | Jackson Deminsky | Caleb Damask | Lydia Guilford |and Rydon Foldhazi. Of these, 6 members voted for Guilford as President, while two were unable to vote but pledged support later. Deminsky was elected Vice President thereafter.
The United Federation Government-in-exile was crucial to the Allies in many ways; it provided an internationally-recognized counterbalance to Madden's empire which reduced vitriol towards the Federation's citizenry, attracted far more defectors from the Imperial armed forces than the Allies had managed before that point, and in many ways rejuvinated the allied cause after over a month of fighting.
In exchange, the United Federation Government's members committed vast sums of personal wealth and volunteered to lead Allied forces with their much more significant military experience. Commanders like Ethan Flood, Carson Clumpner, and Caleb Damask were crucial to the war effort especially during Operation Downfall, the invasion of the Federation's old territory.
Jackson Demsinky and Carson Clumpner's 21st and 6th Fleets defected along with their admirals almost to a man, and the largest portion of the Free Federation Starfleet would still be made up of these ships by the end of the war. In total, 28 ships of the 21st Fleet's original 32 defected with Jackson Demsinky, while 18 ships of the 6th Fleet's original 27 defected with Clumpner.
Many loyal Federation officers also saw the government as a preferable route to defect to as opposed to the other Allied countries. Defecting under the Federation flag became a common occurance in the later stages of the war.
Following the Battles of the Chippewa Sea and Kegonsa, the Federation forces were heavily bolstered by a large fleet of ex-Imperial Navy ships returning to Federation service. These included the Capital Ship USS Port Freeland, the cruiser USS Alliance, and a number of smaller vessels. Federation Starfleet ships also defected in huge numbers, unwilling to be sacrificed as Kamikaze strikes. These included the USS Constitution and her task force of Constellation-class Heavy Cruisers, which became some of the most powerful allied air force elements in the invasions of the Reich. Also notable was the crew of the aircraft carrier MNS Formidable, which was largely made up of defected Federation naval officers and aviators. At the landings of Operation Atlantic, the United Manonan and United Federation invasion of the Reich, 3 divisions of the "Federation Volunteers" landed before any other allied forces, symbolically becoming the first troops to liberate their homeland. This was specifically demanded by Federation President Lydia Guilford.
After the surrender of the Reich, the territory of the United Federation was restored but occupied, and the Government-in-exile transitioned to a provisional government. Following the election of Jackson Deminsky, the occupation began to come to a close before all forces were finally withdrawn on March 1st, 2022. The Government-in-Exile was dissolved before this, on the 9th of February, the same day Deminsky was sworn in.
By the time of the Surrender of Andrew Anderson, the Free Federation Armed Forces contained 6 Naval Vessels and 68 Starfleet ships, making it the 4th largest Allied Air Force after the UMS, FWR, and Despa.
The Membership of the United Federation Government-in-exile began as a relatively small group, but swelled to include many members by the end of the war.
