The Special Relationship between the United Federation and Despa, officially the Central Despan Republic, is a term coined by Senator John Banks-George (U-NI) that refers to the history and tight alliance between the two nations.
UFP-Despan Relations began with large hostility, as Despa declared itself a sovereign nation, claiming much of the Federation's land at the time, leading to the Despa Wars. However, by the outbreak of the first Great Prairie War, the two nations had cooled relations enough to warrant an official alliance and a statement of Friendship. During the war the relationship became even more tight, as Despa and the Federation would even be able to call the other's troops into combat. This trust continued after the war, but faced some criticism as Despa did not join the Prairie Union.
Upon the outbreak of the Second Great Prairie War, the newly-reorganized Central Despan Republic joined the Federation and the Allies. In the war, Despa and the Federation started to use the term more and more bringing it to the forefront as it is now.
The "Special Relationship" has harbored significant criticism, largely from the Republicats/Patriam coalition Party. This is largely due to the competitive relationship in alliance of the FWR, CDR, and UFP. Pacifist Coalition Leader Jacob Monday stated that he believed the FWR was the Federation's closest ally. Some have also said that Valentino was the Federation's closest ally.
