Ryan M. Madden was a Politician, Military Commander, and war criminal who is most well known as the 1st Fuhrer of the Fourth Reich, and was previously the 19th President of the United Federation after the resignation of Alexander Knebel. While his administration initially did much in the way of fostering peace and reconciliation in the aftermath of the Imperial War, including hosting the war crimes trial of the Holy Roman Empire, he ironically ordered the use of 13 nuclear warheads against the Circles Revolution. This action, because of it's vast unnecessary brutality in the eyes of other nations, led to the Third Great Prairie War. This made him the second person to ever order the use of Nuclear Weapons. He is almost universally regarded as the Worst President in Federation History, and perhaps the greatest villian in the history of the Sun Prairie Nations.
One of the longest serving members of the Sun Prairie Nations, Madden was one of the founders of the Old Federation, and, after facilitating the meeting of John Banks-George and Liam St. John, joined the General Flyers Association during the John and Liam Wars. He later joined the Alliance Against Liam, and became a Fleet Admiral and General. After the war, he was one of the four people initially made a Grand Admiral, though this was later rescinded, instead finishing his military career at the now-defunct rank of Grand General, and later Admiral.
Madden had been made Vice-President under the Knebel administration, with Caden Schwartz resigning on his first day. Knebel then appointed Madden as the replacement. Madden was somewhat involved in the campaigns of The Imperial War, but in the end, the fairly pointless conflict ended in Knebel's resignation, and Madden was sworn in as the 19th President that day.
His administration began immediate efforts to end the Imperial War, starting with signing a white peace with the F.W.R. and attempting to end the war against Despa and Pyrrhia by halting all advances into the country, ending all Starfleet airstrikes, and having the Navy prepare to evacuate all forces located within territory of Despa and Pyrrhia.
The Madden Administration rejected the "West Mendota Peace Statement," which would have resulted in the Federation being forced to reduce it's military capacity by nearly 80% of it's strength at the time, a move which was deemed unacceptable by the administration. The United Manonan States, which had previously been considered somewhat adversarial, also disapproved of the West Mendotan Government's moves in this case.
The United Manonan States and the United Federation held a joint tribunal, supported by West Mendota and the New UNSC, which tried Caden Schwartz for two war crimes, "Absolutist Imperialism" and "Invasion without just cause." Schwartz plead guilty to the first, and was found guilty of the second, but was allowed to return to his position in the F.W.R. on the grounds that he continue his 'retirement.'
Before becoming President, he was in fact elected to the Presidency, but resigned for personal concerns before he could be sworn in, starting the Madden Resignation Crisis, which ended with Addison Boott becoming President in his stead.
