The Calvin Petri-class Frigate was a class of 16 Guided Missile Frigates built for the United Federation Navy. Designed as the backbone of it's fleet entering a new era of Great Power competition in 2019, the class became one of the most ubiquitous in the Federation's history. Based on the Catpitol-class Frigate with significant improvements in missile system storage and a slightly widened hull frame, the design had an unexpectedly long lifespan, as many of the ships served for well over 35 months, despite their designed specifications calling for a 15-month life.
With the advent of the Fesmeyer-class Multirole Destroyers, the majority of the Petri-class were sold to foreign navies, with some surviving long enough to participate in Prairie War III. These included HMS Warspite, serving under the Pyrrhian flag, and five vessels of the Federal Wisconsinite Navy, which participated in the last naval campaigns of the Sun Prairie Nations as a part of the Allied Naval Forces which liberated the Federation itself.
Since the beginning of 2019, the Federation Navy had been exploring many options for a new class of naval vessels which could help supplement the now aging Schlafer-class of Destroyers. After the proven abilities of the Frigates of the Michealia and Catpitol City-classes, the navy agreed on a design based upon the US Navy's Perry-class. The ships were originally to be named for cities, but in the end it was changed to being named for important members of the Federation. The initial ship, FFG-20 (a change from the Michealia's FFG-900's), was laid down on the 2nd of February, along with it's sister, FFG-21. Both ships were launched on the same day, and commissioned as USS Calvin Petri and USS Jacob Monday.
Initially, a class of 10 ships was planned, however, after the capabilities of the Petri-class were displayed, it was soon decided that the ships would become a class of 21, becoming the main-line frigates of the Federation Navy.
The Calvin Petri-class frigate is a Guided Missile Frigate (FFG) and as such is primarily armed with up to 24 Patriamic missiles, in Vertical-Launch systems alongside the port and starboard. However, the 5 modified Type IA vessels can only carry 20 missiles. In addition, for surface warfare, the ships carry a MK-II 3-inch naval gun which would
After the Loss of the littoral Frigate USS Michaelia, the Federation Vice President, Ethan Moehr, approved modifications to the USS Zach Feldman, Andrew Anderson, James Durbin, Myler Maughan, and Ethan Flood, which would have a flight deck added to the stern of the ship, which would cover the 4 stern-posted VLS rocket launchers.
The Calvin Petri-class Frigates are planned to be both supplemented and eventually replaced by the Addison Boott-class Frigates. These ships are a combined project by Patriam National and Gateway Co.
