Federica Gavazzi

Hello! I’m Federica. Since October 1st, 2025, I have been a Research Associate (Postdoctoral Fellow) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, working on the project “The geometry of the isomorphism problem for Artin groups”, led by Alexandre Martin. I am part of the Algebra, Geometry and Topology group at Heriot-Watt University.

I defended my PhD thesis on July 9th, 2025, entitled “Topological and algebraic aspects of virtual Artin groups”, at Université Bourgogne Europe (Dijon), under the supervision of Luis Paris.

My research focuses primarily on Artin groups, Coxeter groups, virtual Artin groups, braids, and some of their generalizations. I study these objects from a geometric, topological, and combinatorial perspective.

Upcoming events and talks

With Alexandre Martin we will be hosting Igor Haladjian and Luis Paris for a visit to Heriot-Watt University from November 2 to November 6, 2026.
With Alexandre Martin and Laura Ciobanu we are the local organizers of next edition of the North British Geometric Group Theory Seminar, which will be held in Edinburgh on November 4th, 2026.
I will speak at the AGQ Students Conference - 9-10 November 2026, Glasgow, Scotland , UK.
I will speak at the Aberdeen Algebra Seminar on November 11th,2026, Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.
With Alexandre Martin we will be hosting María Cumplido Cabello and José Gálvez Mateos for a visit to Heriot-Watt University from December 5th to December 14th, 2026.
I will speak at the Séminaire d’algèbre et de géométrie at LMNO- Caen on December 15th, 2026, Caen, France.
I will speak at GAGTA 2027 - 21-25 June 2026 in Grenoble, France
