Summer school supporters:
FEAL 2023 summer school represents an interdisciplinary training opportunity for BA, MA and PhD students with a focus on linguistics. Included in the ACROSS strategic area “Culture, language, identity and heritage”, it will target the study of human faculty of language from different, and apparently distant perspectives: logic and mathematics on one side, experimental implementation on the other one.
As a collaboration among the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia), University of Craiova (Romania), and University of Udine (Italy), FEAL 2023 represents an interdisciplinary training opportunity for BA, MA and PhD students from linguistics, applied mathematics, psychology, and neuroscience.
In particular, the summer school focuses on different research topics addressed in contemporary linguistics through two main approaches: a formal one, offered by theoretical linguists and mathematicians, and an experimental one, covered by cognitive linguists, statisticians and computer scientists.
The summer school will take place in Chemnitz (Germany) in the period 31/07/2023 - 04/08/2023.
Topics include:
insights on experimental linguistics, with a focus on language disorders research
syntax: from the basic computations in the syntax of human language to syntax driven experimentation
programming languages for experimental design
statistics for experimental linguistics: main models
formal mathematical logic and its contribution to linguistics
computational linguistics: machine learning in subtitles and AI
The administrative issues will be supported by the University of Chemnitz, while the organizers will be responsible for the selection process and the scientific aspects.
Students will be provided with a certificate of participation which could be used for the recognition of a maximum of 2 ECTS (based on the rules of their own institutions).
