Pressing Esc on the Sinhala keyboard layout will toggle the mouse input between virtual QWERTY keyboard and virtual Sinhala keyboard. The key will also turn on/off your keyboard input conversion. Pressing Esc on your keyboard has the same function.

These are virtual character key rules that work with mnemonic layouts. They currently are only fully supported on Windows (on other desktop platforms, they work only with US English base layout). As far as I have been able to test, they work when the keyboard is installed, but there is a known issue in the debugger inside Keyman Developer.

I was finally able to complete my design during the holiday season. Thanks for the kind advice. By the way, I upgraded to version 12.0, but found that it buggy: it stalls and logs out for some reason. Finally went back to version 11.0 and completed the keyboard.

On my computer, the xkb directory has a file for Sinhala characters (/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/lk), based on a US keyboard, but it seems to be for a phonetic transcription input method, with a layout that is very different from the Wijesekara layout, which is the standard layout for physical Sinhala keyboards. So it would not be a question of making a few modifications to the existing xkb Sinhala file but of creating a new one, and I think that would be very complicated. Sinhala characters are composites consisting of a basic syllable character (such as ka) plus various diacritic signs and special symbols attached around it, on all four sides, to change the inherent vowel or add other consonants (e.g. to change ka to kro). The composite character is entered by pressing a sequence of keys, with or without modifiers.

or ever seen sinhala characters so not easy. I edited keyboard codes many years ago so

have some idea of the problems but no recent experience.

To see different keyboard states, move the mouse over state keys such as Shift, Caps or AltGr. You can also lock or unlock those keys by clicking them.
