My stepfather sometimes took me fishing. He picked out a rod that fit my arms and helped me haul an angelfish from the water. Afterward, he snapped a picture of me holding it. Decades later, I spotted that picture propped up on his desk. We have a complicated relationship, but now, when I see him kneeling down in front of my daughter with an unguarded smile, I think of how natural he is as a grandfather.

My grandfather ended up walking me down the aisle. Before the wedding, he stayed with me as I was getting my makeup on. Amid the flurry of bridesmaid dresses, spilled Champagne, and so many excited bodies whooshing in and out of the room, my grandfather sat on the bed, a quiet island. He held a slip of paper in his hands and mouthed something over and over again to himself.

gorgeously written. it makes me ache for the loss of my father-in-law. he was gone too soon, and my secret hope is that my daughters will find a stand-in grandpa to fill those gaps where he would have been.

Oh my goodness. It has been a while since an essay has moved me to tears. As many others have commented, my parents split when I was 11 and my relationship with my father was strained for many years. My stepfather and many other friends, teachers and family members stepped into that role for my brother and I and we are better people for it. We lost my stepfather 12 years ago this week and I still think of him and his quiet smile. Thank you for these beautiful words and thoughts.

An intimate letter from the Father to his children telling them how deeply He loves them. This letter will stir hearts, change lives, and bring healing and restoration to those who respond to God's love. The Father reveals his character and his care telling his children that he is the perfect Father you've been looking for all your life. Pack of 25 tracts. Abundant Scripture references, with no particular translation used.

I visited my childhood best friend on my holiday weekend visiting home and told her all about my dad's letter. Even though both her parents are alive and therefore each other's executors, I encouraged her to ask them if they have all this set up in case something happens to one or both of them.

Even though it's morbid to think about our dad dying, my sister and I discussed the letter and decided we are very happy that he put in the work to tell us exactly how he wants everything to play out. There is no gray area about who gets which assets, or what percentage of his estate.

The paperwork is not fun, and you do need to pay a lawyer to help you with it. However, having everything set up so your family or other beneficiary knows what to do when you die or become too ill to care for yourself is a true act of love.

As my Heavenly Father, you have blessed my life in so many ways that it is impossible to express all that you have done in one letter. You have been so very patient with me throughout the years. Yes, I have failed you many times, and yet you continue to show me love and mercy through your forgiveness. Not only do you forgive me, but you also choose to forget every sin that I have done against you.

One of the greatest gifts that you have given to me is your Word in order to teach me more about yourself. I have enjoyed learning all about you. Your Word has revealed your beauty which is evidenced in your love, faithfulness, mercy, holiness, and grace. Your Word has revealed your great power, wisdom, and majesty. In the Word, you have taught me the way that I should I go. Even when I depart from that way, you redirect me and place me back on the right path.

So true! It is amazing that He loves us, that He loves ME, so very much. And I thought the person who put together this Love Letter did such a great job of putting together various verses highlighting that truth in a perfect progression. Peace, Linda

They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Revelation 12:11 (NIV).

The boy had turned into the real man because of this situation because he was looking out for his mom and he understood why she had left. The boy was the one who knew how to read and write, how to treat woman, and how to accept his mother leaving because he realized that it was better that she not be beat by his father than to stay with him and get beaten. The father is demeaned to an illiterate wife beater, while the boy has grown into manhood.

Instead, despite her grievous losses, she moved on and led the best life she could. I am thrilled that she found someone as kind and loving as your father. What wonderful people they seem to have been!

Thanks, David. Apart from giving an insight into their relationship, handwritten letters like the ones we have give us a connection across the generations. We probably should find some way to preserve them for future generations. I am still thinking about that. JB ?

Thanks to you I get to experience a lifetime of love and a beautiful bond with our son, but also with you. Watching us grow together as a team and step into your new role of being a father, shaping our son's life and cementing us as family unit.

I had wanted to hear from her for so long that I didn't trust myself to open the envelope. I was getting married in a month, and I had so many questions for Mom about the guest list and the menu and what she thought about the non-Christian-non-Hindu-but-spiritual ceremony I was planning (intermarriage being something she'd shocked the family with when she married my father).

But even if I found the courage to stare down her familiar handwriting and write back, Mom would never respond. She died a decade ago, when I was 23. Which was why it was all the more extraordinary when a month before my wedding, a box of her love letters arrived on my lap.

Reading someone else's love letters feels illicit. Reading your mother's love letters to a man who is not your father, downright traitorous. But a dead letter is undeliverable. Unreturnable. There was nothing else to do but keep reading.

When Mom's ex appeared at her funeral, he looked at me like he'd seen a ghost. I ran into him again at a wedding, when he told me across a green lawn that smelled like summers with Mom that I had my mother's legs. I never wanted to see him again. Until he told me he had an entire box of love letters from her that he wanted to give back. He responded immediately to my email: "Call me."

I could not. I would be in Boston for my bridal shower. I was getting married, I explained, I wouldn't have time. I was sweating so badly I had trouble holding the phone to my ear. Here I was, betraying my father and my mother, too. But I was too hungry for her words to let this chance at holding her handwriting again go.

The letters before me were undeniably Mom's. I grew up watching her write thank-you notes for thank-you notes and drafts of birthday cards; if she wanted you to love her, she'd write her way straight into you. In her letters to her ex, she was funny and self-deprecating and practically begging to be loved:

She enclosed tiny gifts in exchange for his words: A white pebble from the beach. A handmade Valentine. She wrote an entire letter on toilet paper and covered it in playful puns. Every expression of need was couched in a joke, a just kidding, an apology for emotions threatening to overtake her. 0852c4b9a8
