INF - Research Data Management and Integrative Statistical Analysis

INF provides the necessary technical infrastructure, support and consulting for sustainable research trough the complete life cycle of research data in the CRC. INF is integrated into the research projects and offers both cross-project and specific solutions. In addition to general consulting on all aspects of data management, the services offered include a modular research infrastructure, specific services for GIS data and support in method development and the application of statistical methods. INF ensures open and sustainable data management, promotes reusability and strengthens data quality and methodology.

Joining UP2U EU Project

The key objective of the project is to bridge the gap between secondary schools and higher education & research by better integrating formal and informal learning scenarios and adapting both the technology and the methodology that students will most likely be facing in universities.

We are focusing on the context of secondary schools, often referred to as high schools, which provide secondary education between the ages of 11 and 19 depending on the country, after primary school and before higher education.

This initiative aims to respond to the requirements of a clear mandate from the European Commission allied with the provision of new cloud-based tools and services to enhance primary and secondary education in Europe.

Up2U is a 36 month collaborative project with 5M Euro funding that kicked off in January this year. This project is coordinated by GÉANT and gathers 18 partners from 12 countries across Europe including NRENs, traditional and open universities, infrastructure providers and two commercial partners.

Joining CleanSky EU FP7 Project

CleanSky is an Initial Training Network (ITN) funded by the Marcie-Curie-Actions within the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union (EU FP7).

CleanSky ITN aims to develop innovative ideas in the emerging areas within the “eco-system” of cloud computing: data center evolution, consolidation and service migration, and beyond, via structural training of young researchers. To achieve this goal, a unique combination of academic institutions and industrial organizations will collaborate together and create a multidisciplinary (computer science, telecommunications, scientific computing and optimization theory), international (four European countries plus USA and China) and inter-sectoral (public and private; education and industry) environment to embed a pool of young researchers for innovative research in cloud computing.

The specific objectives of CleanSky are to develop innovative methodologies and approaches (i) to satisfy application requirements and ensure efficiency within the emerging cloud computing paradigm, (ii) to optimize the energy and provisioning costs of individual data centers, (iii) to consolidate, when necessary, multiple data centers to a small set of cloud data center sites through service migration and cloud resource pooling, and (iv) to exploit renewable energy sources in cloud data centers.

GWDG is the university computing centre for the Georg-August-Universität, and the computing and IT competence centre for the Max Planck Society, that offers a wide range of information and communication services for science. The R&D department of GWDG (e-Science group) works on practical issues in cloud computing, HPC and SDN topics to enhance the efficiency and reliability of offered services.

Major responsibilities are as follows:

- Conducting practical researches on several topics such as: Security and Privacy in Clouds, Resource Management, Scheduling, Identity Management, Cryptography, Access Management, Managing Security Levels and Policy Management in Clouds.

- Supervising numbers of master students in Georg-August-Universität.

- Teaching in copartner universities in Göttingen.

- Lecturing in several internal and external workshops and seminars.

- Publishing numbers of academic journal and conference papers about innovative ideas in cloud-based environments.

NeroCloud research team aims to develop innovative ideas to decrease concerns in cloud-based environments and enhance the efficiency of this emerging technology. To achieve this goal, a group of experts and researchers from several international institutes have collaborated together and create an international research team to contribute for a better understanding of the vision of cloud computing and the challenges ahead this unprecedented technology.
