Shirley Talboys is a ceramic artist working in Worcestershire.
After taking a break to explore other art forms Shirley relaunched Fascinating Fungi, now known as Ceramic Fungi, February 2021 hoping to promote the wonderful world of fungi and raise funds for local wildlife groups.
Shirley has been creating ceramic fungi since the early 1990s. Her work includes botanically accurate specimen models and decorative pieces inspired by fungi.
For many years she supplied the British Mycological Society with models for their award winning stands at Chelsea Flower Show and their Travelling Exhibition. Shirley also built an exhibition collection for the ABFG now called the The Fungus Conservation Trust.
She has made commissions for galleries, museums, universities, private collectors and nature enthusiasts around the world. Her work has also been used in several television documentaries. The photograph in the banner heading is part of a collection ordered by State University New York.
Each piece is unique, hand built in potters clay and fired in a kiln. For accuracy of colour the specimen models are finished with acrylic paint, other pieces may be glazed.
