Pressing Esc on the Farsi keyboard layout will toggle the mouse input between virtual QWERTY keyboard and virtual Farsi keyboard. The key will also turn on/off your keyboard input conversion. Pressing Esc on your keyboard has the same function.

I wonder if anyone has any ideas? All the skins I've found are US layout which has the enter/return key and adjacent in a different form/shape to the UK/EU keyboard. I understand that the Macbook Pro keyboard was the same for 2013-2015 models, all sizes and with or without retina.

Apple in fact always makes 3 different kinds of keyboards: ISO for Europe, ANSI for US, and JIS for Japan. You need a skin for the ISO type of keyboard. I think all you can do is keep looking via google. See

To type them separately, you need to use the Zero Width Joiner, ZWJ, U+200d, either after, before and after, or before typing the key. I don't think this is anywhere on the keyboard, you have to use Character Viewer or a text replacement. Below is an example from TextEdit.

Also regarding the traditional Persian keyboards, a user could find all the variations of a letter by using some combination of SHIFT/CTRL/ALT+KEY. For example, key H in Persian Qwerty keyboard types "". If you press the same key 4 times with one space "  " , you see all the variations of the same letter. But these letters cannot be typed separately. Even if you put the cursor in between and press SHIFT+SPACE, they will automatically change to the original presentation "".

I don't think so, though I have not tried every key on the Persian layout. The unicode thin space is U+2009. You can make it from the Character Viewer (Edit > Emoji and Symbols), but that is cumbersome. You could try making a text replacement for it in system preferences/keyboard/text/replace with. Or a custom keyboard layout using

I tried googling it up, but didn't get something I am looking for. For example, if I type in my english keyboard, "Salaam", the output would be in Farsi:  I use Gboard for my phone, but yet to get something similar for my pc. It would be great if you could suggest something as I need. Thank you! ?

I tried to add Persian language support to Ubuntu (KDE Systemsettings / Regional Support / Language), but cannot figure out how to add an input method of the sort I described (I only find keyboard settings for the layout - which is not what I want to change).

Since I read on Wikipedia about IBus (and it being the default foreign input method in Ubuntu since a while), I tried to "apt-get install ibus ibus-qt4 ibus-m17n", and configured it according to [1] (using "Persian / Isiri - m17n" as the input method in ibus-setup). This allowed me to switch into Farsi mode using Ctrl+Space, but when I type, it just seems to have changed the keyboard layout to Farsi - I cannot combose the Farsi characters using a transliteration method as described above. I assume I am using the wrong IBus engine...?

The keyboard indicator (I assume you mean the systray icon enabled by KDE Systemsettings / Input Devices / Keyboard / Layout) only allows to switch keyboard layouts. I do not want to switch the layout entirely to a regular Arabic keyboard layout, because I do not know it and have only latin (german) letters printed on my keyboard.

P.S: Buckwalter is also a bit weird. Most awesome would probably be something were punctuation characters would go untranslated, instead of having their positions changed to the positions on the arabic keyboard. Further, the Qalam romanisation / transliteration seems most appealing to me.

If this is the problem you have to go to Settings > Language & Input; under the keyboard and input methods select Default and click set up input methods. There, you can add several input languages into the keyboard of the Virtual Devices (and also set one as the default language).

the second line I separated the three characters with a space, in the first line they are joining together fine. If you install my keyboard into Keyman, do you get peh, beh and teh joining together?

Steve, thank you for your care. I downloaded Farsi Test, compiled and selected it to write the string. and could produce the string in Word. I need your permission to send you my keyboard source for fault-finding. I have less-than-a-couple-of-hours expertise in the Keyman Developer. Pushing my luck, awaiting your reply.

Lorna, I intend to use my keyboard on the desktop (Windows). When all gets ironed out, that too. The persisting problem is the desktop, and my lack of experince! Thanks to the Community, I seem to dig a bit every day?

"I got a work Mac with a German keyboard and was struggling to do all my shortcuts as well as finding the symbols. These stickers truly saved my working life, (...) the stickers are mat and not glossy which is actually WAY better cause they don't get finger prints on them and always look clean compared to the actual Mac keys. I 100% recommend them!"

"Service and product quality at their very best. I can now transform my two french Azertys (Imac27 and Macbook) into Korean Qwertys at the switch of a button. The stickers quality is insane, it's clean and strong, I can still clean up my keyboards, and I use them everyday. The team is adorable. Many thanks from France!"

"I ordered these decals to cover the worn-off letters on my Mac keyboard. I ended up putting them on all the keys so it would uniform. The decals were easy to apply and I had no difficulty getting used to the feel. The decals saved me from having to buy a new $100 keyboard. Thank you!"

"I bought quite a special keyboard not fitting any regular stickers but they went extra mile to look in details at it and make highly tailored stickers to match it exactly. Communication was absolutely great and productive so I can really recommend it. Well done!"

"Some time ago I bought a laptop on sale, the only downside being it having a spanish keyboard; since I wanted a US keyboard instead, I bought a set of generic stickers, but the result was questionable at best: they were way too small for my keyboard, and they also were quite different from the original keys. I then searched the internet for a set of stickers specifically tailored for my notebook, I found Keyshorts, and decided to give it a try. Sure, a set of stickers costed more than the generic one, but, boy, the Keyshorts one deserves every cent. The stickers replicate the original keys in every detail, including the exact size of every keycap and the font of the characters. They are also reasonably easy to apply. I strongly recommend these stickers"
