Easter is a spring holiday celebrated by many people around the world. It often includes fun traditions like decorating eggs, going on egg hunts, and spending time with family. For many, Easter is also a special time to celebrate hope, new beginnings, and the season of spring. Whether it’s through crafts, stories, or sweet treats, Easter is a joyful time to share with others!
Easter symbolizes the renewal of life! Wishing you and your family renewal of love, life, and happiness!
Foxes, enjoy the community EGG HUNTS! 🎉
Cultural Heritage Month Celebrations
Celebrating monthly heritage themes is a powerful way for families to share their personal stories, customs, and experiences while learning about others in our community. This April, we honor Arab American Heritage Month, a time to recognize the rich history, culture, and contributions of Arab Americans. Here is a link to learn more about the current Arab American Heritage Month.
By exploring diverse perspectives, we build empathy and understanding among students. When representation is lacking, it can lead to prejudice, discrimination, and exclusion—which impact both mental health and a sense of belonging.

Many upper elementary students may already be aware of current events involving hate crimes, including those targeting Asian, Arab, Muslim, and Jewish communities. Talking about different cultures and traditions can help prevent bias before it takes root, and guide children in becoming allies.
Here are a few guiding questions for families:
- How can I make the world a better place?
- How am I the same as other people? How am I different?
- How can I learn about others in a respectful, kind, and curious way?
At Farragut, we love celebrating the diversity of our Fox community through storytelling, book readings, and recognizing heritage months and cultural celebrations.
Want to share your traditions?
Send us a photo or short video with a sentence or two about how your family celebrates a cultural or religious holiday—we’d love to feature it! Send your highlights to Hala Mohammad at farragutptacommunications@gmail.com.

Tue, 4/22: Walk N Roller Earth Day Celebrations
Culver City Walk 'n Rollers are excited to host the first ever Elenda Open Street event!
On April 22, from 7 to 9 a.m., Elenda Street will be closed to cars for a car-free school commute in celebration of Earth Day.
This two-hour, open streets event will allow for kids to have one day with a car free route to school along CCUSD’s busiest school commute corridor. The event will also broaden conversations on safety, transportation and environmental issues. Parents are encouraged to park and walk with their students three blocks from their campus, or drop their students along Huron, Coombs, the parking lot at Culver/Elenda or at the pedestrian bridge, North of Ballona Creek.
The street will be closed to car traffic starting at 6 a.m. and reopened at 9:30 a.m. Parents are encouraged to use side streets as alternatives that day (see map), drop your kids off a few blocks for the school or use transit and avoid driving in this area altogether. For parents who drive to school that day, you are asked to please use alternative drop areas for your students.

This year, the Jewish holiday of Passover begins at sundown today, Saturday, April 12th and will end on Sunday, April 20th. Called Pesach in Hebrew, the holiday lasts eight days, and the holiday carries a message of freedom and liberation.
During Passover, families may clean their kitchen of any leavened products such as flour, bread, cereal, etc. For 8 days, observing families may substitute bread for "matzah"- an unleavened large cracker. Families get together for a Passover "seder" during the first two days of Passover. A seder is a gathering in which the story of Passover is retold with food, drink, sweets, and celebration!
If you celebrate Pesach, we wish you a Chag Sameach!
Sunday April 13/Monday April 14th, marks Baisakhi, one of the most significant and widely observed annual celebrations for Sikh Fox Families.
Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, has long been celebrated as a harvest festival across South Asia and especially in the Punjab region of India, where it is also observed by Jain & Hindu communities. Vaisakhi marks the first day of the month of Vaisakh. Whilst it is culturally significant as a festival of harvest, in many parts of India, Vaisakhi is also the date for the Indian Solar New Year.
Wishing all foxes celebrating the Baisakhi Festival joy, abundance, and prosperity of the new season into the new year!
Farragut welcomes & loves celebrating our diverse communities to elevate equity in multitude of ways. One way to make parents and students’ sense of belonging is by highlighting the heritage months, and/or cultural & communal celebrations.

We also had parents highlighting & celebrating by taking part in Lunar New Year Celebrations.
Thank you to dragon designer/creator Irene Yu, event organizer Connie Wong, the many volunteers who made quick work of assembling, organizing, and disassembling the dragons for the parade, and all the elementary schools 5th grade classes who helped to decorate the scales in the Farragut parade!
Black History Month Assembly
In the month of February, Farragut Foxes also enjoyed Teni & Tayo STEM Author Ms. Omobola’s visit and learned about different cultures and oral storytelling practices of Tanzania and a wondrous story about light and fire featuring Queen Moremi!
Thank you to all the teachers and parent volunteers for chaperoning the students during this interactive assembly & helping with hands on crafts.
Ramadan Mubarak!
Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, will begin at sundown on Friday or Saturday, February 28/March 1st (pending new moon sighting) and end in a month with the festival of Eid Al Fitr. Ramadan is a time for the community to come together, while challenging the self through fasting, charity, and cultivating deeper meditative states through nightly communal prayers. It is a time to celebrate the gift of abundance and resilience of the human body, mind, and spirit while connecting with the plight of the less privileged, and an increased awareness of our shared humanity.
May the Month of Ramadan, bring you and your loved ones, moments of joy, reflection, and togetherness.

We need you to log your hours! It’s imperative for PTA to retain our non-profit status so we need to report these hours.
You can log your hours either online at the link below or in-person in the Volunteer Hours Log in the Front Office (old school pen/paper style).

Farragut Foxes celebrated KINDNESS WEEK
We are thrilled to introduce you to Ms. Jaime Markham, a long-time parent, who has joined our office team. While her role is to focus on attendance and enrollment, she has already stepped up to do so much more for our village, including editing the school newspaper, delivering lost and found items back to students, and mentoring our GreenTeam students. Here she is pictured, picking up a replacement chain when we noticed it missing this past Friday. We are lucky to have her!!!

We met Souharda at our Kinder Welcome Event in the Fall. He’s one our incoming Farragut Foxes and was telling us how excited he is to come to his new school! He told us he was going home to paint a rainbow and promised he would return the following morning with a painting to brighten up our PTA table. He is a Fox of his word and returned the next day...painting in hand.
Farragut Foxes wish you and your families a year filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity.
Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important and widely celebrated holidays in many Asian cultures. This year, Lunar New Year began on January 29, and continues for 15 days, ending with the Lantern Festival on February 12.
Lunar New Year is a time-honored tradition with roots dating back thousands of years. It's a time for families to gather, share festive meals, exchange gifts, and decorate their homes with vibrant colors, especially red, which symbolizes good fortune.
