FantasyRelief

"We take the hassle out of fantasy sports!"

Overview

College students don't have enough time to keep track of all of their fantasy leagues on all of the different platforms.

We created an app that allows them to keep track of all of their fantasy teams from one place and create a much more convenient experience for them.

Our Story

Our team at first decided that we wanted to focus on customization in the sports broadcast. Each group member was given two votes to decide which topic we wanted to focus on and customization was the winner. While doing an activity that involved building themes and clusters we decided that customizing the broadcast would include new voices/atmosphere (of the event), fantasy/gambling in the broadcast, camera angles, connectivity, and uncut sounds. We then had to narrow it down again and based off our interviews and peer response we decided to focus on the fantasy and gambling aspects.

At first we wanted to create an app that could do everything ours does now and also incorporates sports betting, but after talking to a few people that have experience in this field they recommended we narrowed down our app some more. They also mentioned we could add in the betting aspect of our app when we are more established and the first part of our app has no issues and runs smoothly. After learning all this information, we thought we had a good idea for our app and created our end goals, but was informed they were too broad and needed to be narrowed down even more.

We struggled with the concept of focusing on the problem and not the solution as much. We started creating our app before we had found a specific target audience, specific concepts, and a base plan of what problem we were looking to solve. We then circled back to our jamboards to focus on the problem rather than the solution. The jamboards helped us pick our target audience, decide what specific features we want about our app to be different, and came up with some basic screenshots of what it would look like. We settled on creating a fantasy app that provides a convenient experience for college aged users. When we decided the target audience was students in college, we knew we needed to make an app that could provide them a quick option.

Our group then created a storyboard that included initial screenshots of what we wanted the app to look like. We developed these based off of our interviews and research that we conducted based on what college aged students would want in an app. After taking all of this information into account we created our first mock pitch for the app. In our first mock pitch, we lacked detail and information and also struggled on the story aspect of the pitch. After completing the first mock pitch we received advice on how to better improve the pitch, the story in the pitch, and the app. At that point, one of the group members reached out to someone that knows how to make actual screenshots for an app, and he did that for us. We then did two more mock pitches and received feedback on how to improve the pitch and continued to develop it to the point that it is at now. For the final pitch, it tooks us a lot of time to make sure we incorporated all the feedback we had received over the course of the semester, but it got us to a much better version of what it otherwise would have been.

With Six More Weeks

We would create a prototype of our app and send it out to college aged fantasy sport players and ask for feedback from them. This would allow us to create a better user interface and work out any bugs or add features they were looking for. Once we have this information, we could reach out to different investors to fund the creation of our app. Moving on, we would then reach out to developers to create our app. Once we have all of the logistics sorted out, we would develop a timeline to release our app.

What We Learned about Creativity and Innovation

Our group learned that there is an alternative way to solve a problem that includes little about actually solving it, but rather understanding what the problem is. In the past, we would always be focusing on the solution right away, rather than thinking about the problem. When it comes to creativity, it is important to realize that no matter how irrelevant you may think an idea is, it is always important to write it down somewhere because you may come back to it at another point in the process. When presented with a problem in our future careers, we now have the skillset to be able to come up with a more innovative solution rather than use the same process we always have.

Abstract

After conducting interviews and researching the needs of sports fans, we found a problem when it came to the current fantasy sports platforms. College aged fantasy players were struggling to enjoy their fantasy experience due to a lack of time and being overloaded with irrelevant information. College students don't have a lot of time on their hands with school work, sports, work, and clubs, so they can't constantly check in on their fantasy teams or keep up with all the fantasy news.

The problem that we found to be the most important was helping fantasy players keep up with their fantasy teams and receive fantasy news in a timely manner. We knew this was a problem that could be addressed in a way that is similar to other platforms, but had never been done before in fantasy sports. We made it a priority to include popular aspects of other fantasy apps within our app. Our goal was to create a way for college aged fantasy sport players to have the ability to look at all of their fantasy leagues while having access to information on their teams, players, and other fantasy related news, all in one app.

This allows fantasy players to not have to deal with the hassle of having to check multiple websites and opening multiple apps to check their teams. Being able to check their teams in one spot will relieve the stress as well as reduce the time fantasy players spend managing their teams. We will be partnering with a few fantasy sport podcasts to grow our brand and allow our users to gain access to multiple perspectives in a matter of seconds. Based off of the research and interviews we conducted, the app we develop will fix a major pain point for a lot of college aged fantasy sport players with multiple teams who are participating in multiple leagues.
