If you want a reliable, studio-grade tool for critical listening with a lightweight comfort that won't fatigue your ears during long sessions, choose Fanmusic Softears Studio4; if you need the ability to physically rewrite the sound signature of your earbuds to match your mood or genre, choose NFACOUS NE4. Both are serious contenders in the world of high-fidelity audio, but they solve different problems for the modern audiophile. One is a precision instrument built for consistency, while the other is an evolving platform designed for experimentation.
• Fanmusic Softears Studio4: Offers exceptional stability and a flat frequency response ideal for professional monitoring, though it locks you into a single, unchangeable tuning from the factory. Best for engineers and listeners who prioritize accuracy over customization.
• NFACOUS NE4: Delivers a modular experience where you can swap circuit panels to completely alter the sound profile, though this adds weight and complexity compared to standard IEMs. Best for tinkerers and enthusiasts who want one set of hardware to serve multiple sonic purposes.
• The Bottom Line: If your workflow demands a consistent reference point, the Studio4 is the clear choice. If you crave variety and want to change how your music sounds without buying new gear, the NE4 is the winner.
The Fanmusic Softears Studio4 is not trying to be the most exciting product on the market; it is trying to be the most accurate. This earphone was specifically developed as part of the studio series, meaning its primary design goal is to serve professionals in recording, mixing, and stage monitoring. The architecture relies on four balanced armature drivers with a three-way crossover design, which is tuned to produce a wide frequency response range that remains remarkably flat. For audiophiles who need to hear exactly what is in the mix without coloration, this flat response characteristic is the defining feature.
Comfort plays a massive role in why someone would choose this model. The shell is constructed using high-precision 3D printing medical resin, resulting in a unit that is thinner and lighter than many of its predecessors. The outer diameter of the catheter has been minimized, which allows for better compatibility with various eartip types and reduces the physical bulk inside the ear canal. When you are wearing these for hours during a session, that reduced weight and optimized mold based on the RS series makes a tangible difference in wearability. They are designed to effectively reduce external interference, creating the isolated environment necessary for critical listening tasks.

You should buy the Studio4 if you value consistency above all else. The impedance curve is nearly straight, meaning it performs consistently across different sources without requiring heavy amplification to drive it properly. However, you should skip this model if you find yourself constantly changing your mind about how you want your music to sound. Once you have them, the tuning is fixed. There is no way to tweak the bass or treble response once you leave the factory. It is a dedicated tool for a specific job, offering a "set it and forget it" reliability that some users might mistake for a lack of features, but is actually a feature of its own engineering philosophy.
The NFACOUS NE4 approaches the concept of high-fidelity audio from a completely different angle. Instead of locking you into one sound signature, it treats the earphone as a modular platform. The core of this system is a classic Knowles multi-BA layout featuring 22955 Low, 29689 Mid, and dual 31736 High drivers. These provide a balanced, detailed foundation, but the real magic lies in the swappable crossover technology. You can physically remove the internal matrix panels to change how these drivers interact, effectively rewriting the full sound character of the earphones instantly.
This level of modularity appeals directly to those who view their audio setup as a dynamic ecosystem rather than a static purchase. The NE4 comes preloaded with three distinct tuning panels: Pop, Reference, and Transparent. This means you can listen to a vocal-heavy track with a warm, engaging "Pop" setting, then switch to the "Reference" panel for a more neutral presentation when analyzing a complex arrangement, and finally use "Transparent" for a pure, uncolored experience. The chassis itself is built with durability in mind, utilizing a 5-axis CNC aluminum shell paired with a stainless steel inner frame. The connection points use gold-plated spring probes to ensure signal transmission remains stable even after repeated panel swaps.
You should buy the NFACOUS NE4 if you enjoy the process of tweaking your audio experience. It is perfect for the listener who gets bored with a single sound signature and wants the freedom to explore different tonal balances without investing in multiple sets of earbuds. The kit is also incredibly comprehensive, including a disassembly tool, spare screws, adapters, and assorted silicone ear tips, making the initial setup and future maintenance straightforward. However, you must be willing to accept a slightly more complex form factor. The mechanical nature of swapping panels and the inclusion of a robust metal chassis mean these are likely heavier and more intricate than simple resin shells. If you prefer a minimalist approach where the device simply disappears into your ear, the NE4's functional aesthetic might feel too busy, but for the audiophile who loves to tinker, it is a game-changer.

For me, the decision comes down to what kind of listener I am on any given day. If I am working on a project or need to analyze a track with surgical precision, the Fanmusic Softears Studio4 is the superior tool. Its flat response and lightweight design make it the undisputed king of consistency for audiophiles who need to trust what they hear without any hidden boosts or cuts. However, if I am just relaxing and want to explore different textures in my favorite albums, the NFACOUS NE4 wins hands down. The ability to swap out the internal tuning panels to completely reshape the sound is a feature I cannot ignore. In my opinion, for the general audiophile who wants a versatile, evolving experience, the NFACOUS NE4 offers more long-term value and excitement, while the Studio4 remains the specialist's choice for work.
They are professional audio tools intended for adult listeners seeking high-fidelity reproduction.
Neither product requires charging as they are passive, wired devices powered directly by your source device. Fast charging is irrelevant here; instead, focus on the Studio4 for speed of setup or the NE4 for the speed of switching sound profiles.
Neither model uses electronic noise cancellation; their isolation comes entirely from the physical fit of the ear tips and the density of the driver housing.
Yes, the Fanmusic Softears Studio4 is explicitly designed for these scenarios, offering excellent sound insulation and a flat response ideal for communication and live monitoring. The NFACOUS NE4 can also be used, particularly with the Reference panel, but it lacks the specific studio-focused tuning of the Studio4.
