Hello readers, you all must have used ‘Printers’! Right? But this article is not about printers as we know it for domestic use! Here we are discussing how printing technology is used by businesses.
We have come a long way from the early days of hand-carved block printing or hand set printers. Today, printing technology is more advanced with many significant techniques available for a variety of products. One such product is the Industrial Inkjet Printer.
What is it and how does it work?
Industrial Inkjet printing is a mode of using inkjet technology to print or deposit materials as a part of a manufacturing process. This technology was developed in the late 1970s, mostly by companies like Epson, HP, and Cannon.
It reproduces a digital image by spurring droplets of ink onto a variety of materials such as paper, plastic or glass. Imagine continuous gunfire of millions of ink dots on the paper each second - that is what an inkjet printing process is like; instead of bullets, you get minuscule drops of ink! There are two broad Industrial Inkjet printing technologies – Continuous Inkjet Printing (CIJ) and Drop-On-Demand (DOD).
Continuous Inkjet Printing (CIJ): As the name suggests, this works by propelling a steady stream of ink which is broken down into droplets and then directed to the substrate or to the collector; the unused droplets are recycled and reused.
Use – Commercially used for marking and coding of products & packages.
Drop-On-Demand (DOD): It is further classified into Thermal DOD and Piezoelectric DOD. As the name implies, this works only when required. This means that the ink drops are formed by applying a pressure pulse within the printer head.
Uses – Thermal DOD is used primarily for desktop printers in small offices and homes. Its industrial use is limited. Piezoelectric DOD has a wide emerging industrial market such as textiles, packaging, ceramics, etc.
Why Opt For Inkjet Technology For Your Business?
For businesses of all sizes, Inkjet technology has brought in the twin benefits of cost savings and consistent high quality. With the latest inkjet technology, you can access superior print resolutions with simplified and efficient workflows.
Let’s look at the 3 main business benefits of Industrial Inkjet Printer in more detail -
1. Streamlined Production: Easy to use, these printers make operating and maintaining the device quick and straightforward. With integrated technological systems they can be controlled remotely and also allows the user to make mid-production changes.
2. Cost Savings: To finally own a printer that takes care of ALL your printing needs under your supervision is an investment worth making. And with inkjet technology the cost of running the equipment is vastly reduced – the technology makes efficient use of ink which makes it much more affordable to refill than other printing technologies.
3. Handles large volumes without loss of quality: With your own in-house printer, sending material to external vendors is no longer required! You can supervise the quality right down to the tiniest detail and ensure that regardless of the volume, your quality remains top-notch.
