Durham District School Board (DDSB) recognizes the importance of partnerships with parents and guardians in creating positive learning environments. The School Community Council (SCC) is an advisory body that makes recommendations to the Principal and school board to further student achievement and well-being. Every school in the DDSB has an SCC. The SCC is made up of parents, school staff and community members and should represent the diversity of our school community.
Bolton C. Falby's School Community Council (SCC) is an advisory group working to improve student achievement and well-being and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents and caregivers.
All BCF's parents/caregivers have an equitable place in our school's community. We recognize that participation can take many forms and we are working to:
offer parents/caregivers a variety of ways to share their voices, knowledge, and expertise
recognize that relationship building is key to breaking down walls and barriers
strive to identify and eliminate barriers to participation for parents/caregivers
encouraging parent and community participation in education;
developing a good understanding of their community, including its needs, resources, supports and goals for student learning and well-being;
cooperating with school staff to develop school-level plans;
communicating annually with families and community members about their activities and accomplishments;
accounting publicly for money they spend;
participating in orientation, training, development and networking opportunities related to SCCs;
upholding confidentiality;
and, following legislation, regulations, and Board policies. SCCs may also provide advice and recommendations to their Boards of Education, school staff and other organizations about the learning needs and well-being of students.
The date for the next SCC meeting has yet to be called. It will be announced via email to the school community.
** Virtual attendance will be available at this meeting. The office will distribute the meeting link by email on the day of the meeting.
