Mission Statement

Fair Library Jobs is a group of library workers aiming to improve recruitment and employment practices in the library sector in the UK. We believe that employers should act on the principles of transparency, equity and respect. Doing so is vital for not just the wellbeing and livelihoods of library workers, but also the continuing relevance and value of the profession for wider society.

Fair Library Jobs was inspired by other organisations doing similar work, in particular Fair Museum Jobs.  We have adapted the Fair Museum Jobs Manifesto for the library sector into the Fair Library Jobs Manifesto which we aim to establish as a standard for library job recruitment. We will urge employers who do not meet this standard to improve their practices, and celebrate positive examples of good recruitment practices.
