Our community garden has changed over the years and may be expanded a little this year. You can see a little of this by looking at what is recorded each year on this site. As of now (February 2026) we have 4 raised beds for older or handicapped people, 6 ground boxes for adults or flowers, 2 established flowerbeds (one with native plants), a large in ground area for adults and a children's garden with 3 big, raised beds, 2 small ground boxes and some in ground area. These can all be seen if you look through the pictures from the last few years. You can also go to Lions Park and observe it on your own to get a better picture. Sarah Long, the head librarian at the Fairfax Library, is the community garden's treasurer and can be contacted there. Her number is 507-441-5933 and I am Bix Baker, a retired science teacher from GFW High School, and can be contacted at 507-995-5635. Call or text either of us. We can show you personally what possibilities exist and map out a plot for you. When spring and summer comes, we will introduce you to others that are gardening beside you.
Here are links to 2 forms we would like all gardeners to print, fill out and sign. The first is our garden rules and the second is a waiver of liability and agreement of rules. You can get these from Sarah in the library if you cannot print them out and turn them in to her. She will handle the money too.
There are no paper forms available to sign up. The best is to contact the Renville County Extension office , 320-523-3709 or mnext-renville@umn.edu. Suggested cost is $20.00. We will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 on Thursday evenings from the end of May to the end of August. The class is taught by local Renville county Master Gardeners. For ages Kindergarten to 6th grade.
Below are a few pictures of kids in action last year. More can be found on the Children's Garden page of this website.
