CAREER: The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research. NSF encourages submission of CAREER proposals from early-career faculty at all CAREER-eligible organizations and especially encourages women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and persons with disabilities to apply.

Apart from our full-time faculty, we also boast an impressive adjunct professorship made up of practicing lawyers and public officials with decades of hands-on experience in the practice of law. These professors prove by example that good lawyers are vitally engaged in the life of the local community, state, nation and world.

Seattle University School of Law is home to an outstanding faculty of committed teacher-scholars. Our professors do not choose between scholarship and teaching, but rather are experts in their fields who are drawn to share their knowledge with students.

A faculty is a division within a university or college comprising one subject area or a group of related subject areas, possibly also delimited by level (e.g. undergraduate).[1] In North America academic divisions are sometimes titled colleges, schools, or departments, with universities occasionally using a mixture of terminology, e.g., Harvard University has a Faculty of Arts and Sciences and a Law School.

The Faculty of Arts took its name from the seven liberal arts: the trivium[Notes 1] (grammar, rhetoric, dialectics) and the quadrivium[Notes 2] (arithmetic, music, geometry and astronomy). In German, Scandinavian, Slavic and related universities, it would more often be called the Faculty of Philosophy.[Notes 3] The degree of Magister Artium (Master of Arts) derives its name from the Faculty of Arts, while the degree of Doctor Philosophiae (Doctor of Philosophy) derives its name from the Faculty of Philosophy, German name of the same faculty. Whether called Faculty of Arts or Faculty of Philosophy, it taught a range of subjects with general and fundamental applicability.

A traditional division of the teaching bodies of medieval universities (the others being Law, Medicine and Theology), the Faculty of Arts was the lowest in rank but also the largest (the higher faculties admitted only Arts graduates).[2] Instead of "Arts", this faculty often had the name "Philosophy". Nowadays this is still a common name for faculties teaching humanities (e.g.,) Norwegian: Det filosofiske fakultet, Slovene: Filozofska fakulteta).

Our faculty members are both scholars and experienced lawyers with a wide range of expertise. One-hundred percent of Drake Law faculty have actually practiced law, and they bring that experience into the classroom.

Willamette Law faculty includes some of the most respected legal scholars in the country nationally recognized for their research, publications and contributions to the law, particularly in the areas of constitutional law, commercial and business law, international and comparative law, environmental law, and dispute resolution. Yet it is their deep dedication to their students that distinguishes Willamette Law professors from others. The school's comprehensive curriculum is further strengthened by the talented lawyers and jurists who serve as Willamette's adjunct professors and visiting faculty.

The College of Law faculty has been chosen for its ability to excite, instruct and inspire. In addition to their impeccable credentials and years of law practice, the Willamette faculty has a deep commitment to teaching.

It is important that members of the faculty be regularly available on campus to teach students, to interact with colleagues, and to participate continuously in the educational programs of the University. (See also Research Policy Handbook 4.1.4.A.).

(1) A faculty member who wishes to appeal an administrative decision (that is, a decision that does not involve denial of his or her reappointment or promotion) made below the provostial level may file a written appeal with the Provost.

The appeal procedures outlined in Section 4.2.4 are designed to assure that decisions by faculty members and administrators comply with the standards of academic freedom established in Section 4.2.2. These procedures are internal to the University and are aimed at preserving confidentiality and academic integrity while protecting the rights of individual faculty members. The provisions of Section 4.2.2 do not create contractual rights subject to review by agencies outside the University. The procedures outlined in Section 4.2.4, however, constitute the administrative remedies for faculty appeals covered by parallel rights established under applicable federal and state laws (such as Civil Rights Acts).

(1) The rights herein conferred shall be enforceable only by a person who is directly aggrieved and who holds a faculty (as defined above) position; no other person or persons shall have standing to complain.

(2) If any faculty member feels aggrieved by a decision that he or she believes to be in violation of this Statement, he or she may file an appeal pursuant to the Statement on Faculty Appeal Procedures.

b. To the extent that an appeal does not involve a violation of Section 4.2.2(1) of this Statement (that is, relating to the search for, and appointment and promotion of, faculty), the Advisory Board may, at its option, refer the appeal to any faculty member or committee of faculty members as it deems appropriate, which faculty member or committee of faculty members shall consider the matter and make recommendations to the Provost directly.

(1) In order to maintain the integrity of its teaching and research and to preserve academic freedom, Stanford University demands high standards of professional conduct from its faculty. In the case of a serious violation of these standards, a faculty member may face disciplinary charges under the following procedures.

(2) These disciplinary procedures are invoked when the Provost decides to formally charge a faculty member with professional misconduct that is serious enough to warrant a sanction ranging from censure (a public statement) to dismissal from the University. This procedure applies to members of the Professoriate, as defined in Section 1.2.5 of the Faculty Handbook. The Statement on Academic Freedom applies.

(4) A faculty member charged under these procedures may be subject to sanctions including but not limited to the following: censure; a fine and/or a temporary reduction in pay; suspension from the University without pay for a specified period; indefinite reduction in pay; dismissal from the University.

Promptly, within such time as the Advisory Board determines, the faculty member must file with the Board a statement setting forth the defenses proposed, any factual allegations that are specifically disputed, and any additional factual matters to which the faculty member will draw attention. The University ordinarily has ten days to reply to this statement.

(2) A finding of professional misconduct requires that a majority of the members of the Advisory Board concludes that the faculty member has committed professional misconduct in the respect or respects charged.

(3) If a majority of the Advisory Board concludes that the faculty member has committed professional misconduct, the Board will decide upon the appropriate sanction and will notify the President of its decision.

(2) The burden of proof by clear and convincing evidence is upon the University in hearings before the Hearing Officer to prove the factual elements of the charge. The faculty member has the burden of proof by a preponderance of the evidence on any affirmative defenses raised by the faculty member.

(3) The faculty member has the right to have an advisor of his or her choice accompany him or her during the hearings, the rights of confrontation and cross-examination, and the right to refuse to testify in the hearings.

(4) The faculty member may choose either private or public hearings. Both the Advisory Board and the Hearing Officer, however, may entertain motions (from either party) that all or part of the hearings be held in private. 006ab0faaa
