- I tried "forgot password" and it gave me the option of reset via email. BUT, I noticed the email address is NOT mine. So I did not proceed, because the hacker changed the email address saved to my profile.

- I went to facebook.com/hacked, and clicked on "my account is comprised". I tried the current password and 2 old passwords, and each time it only gives me the option of sending the reset code to the email address, which is the hackers email.

- I went to facebook.com/identify, thru a chrome browser that i use for FB, and also thru a new browser. I tried my phone #, email and my name and it couldn't find my profile. I was finally able to find my profile by entering my profile's URL, and interestingly underneath my profile photo, it shows my phone #, even though it couldn't find my profile when i entered the phone #. WEIRD

ALSO, the "do not have access to these (email, ph#)" option does not show up on the app, mobile browser or PC browser. I'm guessing facebook removed that. Will downloading an old version of the FB app maybe show the option?

Additional article from The Hacker News - "unknown hacker or a group of hackers exploited a zero-day vulnerability in its social media platform that allowed them to steal secret access tokens for more than 50 million accounts" and "Facebook has already reset access tokens for nearly 50 million affected Facebook accounts and an additional 40 million accounts, as a precaution"

After invalidating session tokens, Facebook should have made the invalid ones redirect not to the main login page, but to a page explaining the breach and asking the user to click logout, then manually type facebook.com in their browser location bar and login again.

Once Facebook has sent along an SMS message containing the one-time code used to access the account, the SS7 security flaw can then be exploited to divert this code to the attacker's own mobile device, granting them access to the victim's account.

XHP provides a native XML-like representation of output (e.g., HTML) and allows UI code to be typechecked, automatically avoiding several common issues like cross-site scripting (XSS) and double-escaping.

From there, things only got worse. Hogue requested a password reset email, but it was sent to an address belonging to the hacker. The criminals also changed the phone number associated with her account.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- In a letter to investors included in Facebook's IPO filing, CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined his philosophy for running what has become a multi-billion-dollar business. At core of that philosophy: Love your hackers.

"We have cultivated a unique culture and management approach that we call the Hacker Way," Zuckerberg wrote in the filing. "There's a hacker mantra that you'll hear a lot around Facebook offices: 'Code wins arguments.'"

Project staff reported in May that the tools could be abused to allow attackers to upload malicious images that grant remote code execution from where various further compromise, data exfiltration, and lateral movement may be possible.

Recovering a hacked Facebook account takes a little bit of time and patience. As hackers utilize the Facebook recovery protocols to hack the account in the first place, companies like Meta have committed to setting up lengthy recovery processes in response. Nevertheless, if your Facebook account has been hacked, and the hacker has changed your password and linked email, it's crucial to take immediate action to regain control and secure your account by following the steps below:

Once you have changed your password and secured your linked email, you will hopefully find you still have access to your Facebook account. Now you should enable two-factor authentication for your Facebook account. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a code from your mobile device in addition to your password.

Open the app or webpage on any of the devices you usually use, and see if any of them are still logged in - with any luck the hacker missed one!If any of your devices still open your Facebook page without logging you out first, this is great news - you can follow the recovery steps mentioned above. If not, move on with the next step in the account recovery process.

If the system is able to locate your account: It will ask to send a verification code to the address or phone number currently associated with the account. If the account or phone number listed does not belong to you:

Be cautious of suspicious links and emails, as hackers often use phishing tactics to gain access to your account. Familiarize yourself with Facebook's privacy settings and adjust them to suit your preferences. Learning to recognize the signs of a compromised account, changing your password, enabling two-factor authentication, and utilizing Facebook's security features are essential steps to secure your privacy and protect against online identity theft.

But Facebook has an option to enable the e-mail communication in encrypted manner: PGP @facebookTo understand what PGP is and how to handle it with Facebook, this page gives you an idea: Configuring PGP Encrypted Facebook Notification

Comparing the information extracted from the message and the key in your profile might also be of interest:

It should be used the same key as the mail claims to come from Facebook (but there is no warranty of authenticity as the hacker's could have copied the 'public key' and now use it to trick you.).

If the above described disruption of the decryption chain is not the problem, it is quite plausible, the encryption has been activated by the hackers and you do not have the private key to decrypt the messages (see below). So they can read the messages (if they get them) and not you!

If a hacker has changed your Facebook account password and the associated email, you might think all hope is lost. However, there are still ways to retrieve your Facebook account. Even if the hacker has added a Two-Factor Authenticator or your account has been disabled, you can still recover your Facebook profile.

Facebook will send you an email with the option to reset your password if you have been locked out of your account. But if you receive an email asking you to do a password reset that is unsolicited, it could mean that hackers are trying to force a password change on your account.

Has there been a sudden influx of unusual friend requests sent from your Facebook account? Your account may be under siege. One of the things a hacker may do after gaining access to your account is to try to collect personal information from other users. And this is easier to do when the hacker makes new friends with other users connected to your account.

When a hacker takes over your Messenger account (or hacks your Telegram account, for that matter), one of their first moves will be to kick you out of the account. They do this by trying to change your password so as to deny you login access. So if your Facebook Messenger suddenly rejects your password, bear in mind that a hacker might have succeeded in changing the password.

If you suddenly begin to see unusual messages sent from your Messenger, it could be that a hacker already has access. Such access allows the hacker to send malicious messages to other users from your Messenger.

Despite all the safety features available to Messenger users, hackers constantly strive to find new ways to hack in. Apart from physically stealing your login details, some of the techniques hackers may use to hack your Facebook Messenger include phishing, keylogging, hacking using cookies, or using tracking programs like Spyier or PhoneSpector.

When a hacker hijacks your Facebook Messenger, there are several things to do to keep your friends safe and recover your account. Here are some measures to take if you find out your Facebook Messenger account has been hacked.

Some platforms offer the possibility for users to generate tokens in advance, such as a document with a certain number of codes, to be used later for bypassing 2FA.If an attacker gets access to the document, they can easily use it to bypass 2FA, assuming that they also have the password of the user.

"The word 'hacker' has an unfairly negative connotation from being portrayed in the media as people who break into computers. In reality, hacking just means building something quickly or testing the boundaries of what can be done. Like most things, it can be used for good or bad, but the vast majority of hackers I've met tend to be idealistic people who want to have a positive impact on the world.

.facebook_ipo_small {float:left;width:220px;}"Hackers try to build the best services over the long term by quickly releasing and learning from smaller iterations rather than trying to get everything right all at once. To support this, we have built a testing framework that at any given time can try out thousands of versions of Facebook. We have the words 'Done is better than perfect' painted on our walls to remind ourselves to always keep shipping.

"Hacking is also an inherently hands-on and active discipline. Instead of debating for days whether a new idea is possible or what the best way to build something is, hackers would rather just prototype something and see what works. There's a hacker mantra that you'll hear a lot around Facebook offices: 'Code wins arguments.'

.facebook_zwealth1{float:left;width:400px;}"To encourage this approach, every few months we have a hackathon, where everyone builds prototypes for new ideas they have. At the end, the whole team gets together and looks at everything that has been built. Many of our most successful products came out of hackathons, including Timeline, chat, video, our mobile development framework and some of our most important infrastructure like the HipHop compiler.

Meta has updated its bug bounty program to offer up to $300,000 to security researchers who report vulnerabilities allowing attackers to remotely execute code on its mobile apps, the company said on Thursday. be457b7860
