Privacy Policy for Eye Care

Eye Care ("the App," "we," "our") is a screen-time and eye-care reminder application for Android. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and your choices. Eye Care is designed to work entirely on your device — it does not require an account and does not operate its own servers.

1. SUMMARY

Eye Care does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data to us or to any third party for our own purposes. All app settings, usage timers, and preferences are stored locally on your device. Eye Care does not share any data with any third party. 

2. INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE

The App stores the following locally, using Android's standard local storage (SQLite database and SharedPreferences). None of this is transmitted to us:

• App Packs — the names of apps you choose to monitor, your reminder interval, display duration, and reminder mode (pop-up or notification).

• Usage timers — how long a tracked app has been in the foreground since the last reminder, used only to decide when to trigger your next reminder. This counter resets daily and is never saved to a history log.

• App preferences — theme, custom reminder messages, countdown display setting, active/paused state, and whether you've completed onboarding.

This data stays on your device. Uninstalling the App removes it. We have no access to it.

3. PERMISSIONS WE REQUEST AND WHY

Each permission below exists to support a specific, visible feature of the App. None are used to read your personal content or send data off your device.

• Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) — To detect which app is currently in the foreground, so the App knows when a tracked app is being used and for how long. This is read locally on-device only.

• Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — To show the full-screen break reminder overlay when your timer ends.

• Notifications — Requested only if you choose "Notification" mode when creating a pack. Not requested if you use Pop-up mode exclusively. 

• Notification Listener Service — Used solely to detect whether a tracked app is currently playing media (e.g., a video or song), so the App can pause playback during a reminder instead of minimizing the app. The App does not read the content, sender, or text of your notifications.

• Battery Optimization Exemption — Optional. Lets the background monitoring service keep running reliably without being killed by the system.

• Device Admin — Optional, user-enabled. Used only to prevent accidental/unauthorized uninstallation of the App if you choose to enable "Prevent Uninstallation" in Settings.

• Run at Startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — To restart the background monitoring service after your device reboots, so reminders continue working.

• Foreground Service / Wake Lock — Required by Android for background monitoring. The persistent "Eye Care is running…" notification only appears once you have created at least one pack. No notification is shown on a fresh install before any pack is created. 

4. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

• We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any account information

• We do not read, log, or transmit the content of your notifications.

• We do not access your camera or microphone.

• We do not read your messages, emails or personal files.

• We do not track your location.

• We do not sell your data to third parties.

• We do not build a history or log of your app usage beyond the live counter needed for the next reminder.

• We do not operate any backend server that the App talks to.

5. SHARING FEATURE

If you use the App's "Share" option, your device's standard share sheet is opened so you can send a message about the App through an app of your choosing (e.g., Messages, Email). Eye Care does not see or store who you share with or what you send.

6. DATA SECURITY

Because your data is stored only on your device using Android's standard app-private storage, it is protected by your device's own security (lock screen, encryption, etc.). We recommend keeping your device's operating system and lock screen security up to date.

7. DATA DELETION

You can delete all data created by the App at any time by:

• Clearing the App's storage/data from Android Settings.

• Uninstalling the App.

Both actions permanently remove all packs, settings, and preferences stored by the App.

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Eye Care is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App does not collect personal information from any user, regardless of age.

9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the App's features or legal requirements. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective date" above. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
