PRIVACY POLICY FOR SLITHER PRO MOD
================================================================================
Last Updated: October 2026
1. INTRODUCTION & CORE PRIVACY COMMITMENT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slither Pro Mod ("the Extension") is committed to total user privacy and data security. We believe that gaming enhancement utilities should operate completely locally on your machine without logging your activities, monitoring your browsing habits, or harvesting personal information.
Our fundamental privacy commitments:
• Zero Personal Data Collection: We do NOT collect, store, or transmit your name, IP address, email, browsing history, or gameplay statistics.
• No Tracking or Telemetry: We do NOT run tracking scripts, Google Analytics, telemetry beacons, or third-party monitoring SDKs.
• No External Data Servers: The Extension does NOT transmit your gameplay data to any remote server or cloud database.
• No Data Monetization: We never sell, lease, rent, or share user data with advertisers or data brokers.
• 100% Local Execution: All features (camera zoom interpolation, FPS optimization, in-game HUD rendering, and screenshots) execute entirely client-side inside your local browser instance.
2. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED: WHAT WE USE & WHY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To function reliably, the Extension requests a strictly minimal set of browser permissions defined in its manifest.json. Below is an exhaustive breakdown of why each permission is required:
• "storage"
- Purpose: Enables the extension to access Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local).
- Why it is needed: Saves your custom mod preferences (such as your chosen zoom sensitivity, FPS target cap, preferred neon skin presets, background theme, and HUD toggle preferences) across browser restarts.
- Privacy impact: All preferences are stored strictly on your local computer hard drive. No data is synced to external servers.
• "activeTab"
- Purpose: Grants temporary access to the active tab when you explicitly click on the extension's icon in the browser toolbar.
- Why it is needed: When you open the popup dashboard or click "Play Slither.io Now", the extension checks if a Slither.io tab is already open and in focus, allowing you to seamlessly switch to the game without creating redundant duplicate tabs.
- Privacy impact: Access is temporary, localized, and only triggered when you open the popup.
• Host Permissions ("*://slither.io/*", "*://*.slither.io/*")
- Purpose: Allows the extension to inject its content scripts and main-world game controller exclusively into Slither.io web pages.
- Why it is needed: To hook into the HTML5 canvas game loop, read live coordinate telemetry for the HUD, intercept mouse scroll events for zoom adjustments, and render the sleek on-screen status overlay.
- Privacy impact: The extension CANNOT run on or inspect any other website. It is restricted exclusively to slither.io domains.
3. ARE ALL PERMISSIONS REALLY NECESSARY? (PERMISSION MINIMIZATION & SAFETY ANALYSIS)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A common concern among Chrome users and developers is whether an extension requests unnecessary or invasive privileges. Here is our transparency review answering: "Are all of these permissions truly necessary?"
YES — every permission currently requested is essential for the extension's core functionality, and NOT A SINGLE redundant permission has been included.
Consider what would happen if any of these were removed:
• If "storage" were omitted: You would have to re-configure your zoom sensitivity, hotkeys, and performance presets every single time you refreshed the browser.
• If host permissions for "slither.io" were omitted: The mod would be completely unable to interact with the game canvas, calculate zoom scale, or render the live HUD overlay.
What WE DELIBERATELY EXCLUDED to protect your privacy:
Many older, poorly coded, or malicious gaming mods request dangerous permissions that trigger severe Google Chrome security warnings. We have specifically avoided all of them:
❌ Broad Host Permissions ("<all_urls>" or "*://*/*"):
• Dangerous risk: Allows an extension to read, alter, or inject code into every single website you visit, including online banking, email, and social networks.
• Our approach: We strictly scoped our host permissions ONLY to "*://slither.io/*". The extension has ZERO capability to observe your activity on any other domain.
❌ "tabs" Permission:
• Dangerous risk: Grants full access to all your open browser tabs, page titles, and URLs across your entire browsing session.
• Our approach: We do not request "tabs". We rely solely on the secure, permission-less "chrome.tabs.create" and scoped "activeTab" API.
❌ "downloads" Permission:
• Dangerous risk: Grants persistent control over your local download shelf and file system.
• Our approach: Screenshot highlights are saved using native HTML5 in-browser blob downloads directly triggered by user click, eliminating the need for elevated file-system privileges.
❌ "webRequest" & "cookies" Permissions:
• Dangerous risk: Could allow monitoring of network traffic, intercepting headers, or stealing session authentication cookies.
• Our approach: Neither permission is requested. The extension does not inspect network requests or touch browser cookies.
4. LOCAL SCREENSHOT HIGHLIGHTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you press the hotkey [S] or enable auto-screenshots for high score / kill moments:
• The snapshot is captured directly from your local HTML5 canvas element.
• The resulting image file is downloaded directly to your computer's default "Downloads" folder.
• Screenshots are NEVER uploaded, analyzed, or shared with third parties.
5. DATA RETENTION & SECURITY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because we do not operate databases or collect user data, there is no personal data retention. All local preferences saved in Chrome's local storage can be erased instantly at any time by:
1. Clicking the "Reset" button inside the Slither Pro Mod popup dashboard, or
2. Uninstalling the extension from chrome://extensions/.
6. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We may periodically update this policy to reflect new, user-requested features. Any updates will maintain our strict zero-data-collection philosophy.
7. CONTACT & INQUIRIES
