Privacy Policy for Google Docs Dark Mode
Last updated: August 2026
Google Docs Dark Mode ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome extension handles your data and describes the purpose of each required permission.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
Google Docs Dark Mode does NOT collect, track, sell, or transmit any of your personal document contents, keystrokes, browsing history, or private files. All document rendering and dark mode styling happen strictly locally in your browser.
When you use the Pro subscription features, your email address is used solely to verify your active subscription status with our licensing backend and activate your Pro features.
2. Permissions and Exact Justifications
The extension requests only the minimum necessary permissions required for its functionality:
- "storage":
Used to save and synchronize your dark mode preferences (such as selected theme style, brightness, contrast, sepia levels, and on/off switches) as well as your local trial usage count and subscription status.
- "cookies":
Used exclusively to read and store a trial timestamp cookie on myexthub.com ("myexthub_trial_start"). This ensures accurate trial period tracking and prevents trial abuse upon reinstalling the extension. No unrelated cookies are accessed or modified.
- "https://docs.google.com/*" (Host Permission):
Required to apply custom dark theme stylesheets and scripts directly to Google Docs pages to invert bright areas and style the interface. The extension does not read, extract, or transmit any textual content from your documents.
- "https://myexthub.com/*" (Host Permission):
Required to check license status via API and synchronize user login/logout state between the extension and the myexthub.com dashboard.
3. Third-Party Services & Payments
Payment processing and user authentication are handled securely through our official website (myexthub.com) using Stripe. We never see or store your payment details (such as credit card numbers). We do not use third-party tracking scripts, analytics trackers, or advertising networks.
4. Data Retention and Security
Your settings and preferences are stored locally on your device via the Chrome Storage API. You can delete all locally stored data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser extension storage.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any updates will be published with an updated revision date.
