Privacy Policy for Teams Message Extractor Chrome Extension
Effective Date: August 8, 2026
1. Overview
Teams Message Extractor ("the Extension") is dedicated to protecting user privacy and maintaining complete data security. The Extension operates 100% locally within your Google Chrome browser. All message extraction, parsing, filtering, and export operations take place entirely on your device.
2. Information Collection and Local Processing
- Local Client-Side Processing: All message extraction, parsing, formatting, and file generation (HTML transcripts, CSV spreadsheets, JSON data, Markdown files, and ZIP archives) occur exclusively within your local Chrome browser runtime.
- No External Data Transmission: The Extension does NOT collect, transmit, store, or upload any user communications, chat content, login credentials, token identifiers, or personal information to any external server or third-party service.
- Zero Analytics or Telemetry: The Extension contains no tracking codes, analytics scripts, telemetry trackers, or remote error logging.
3. Detailed Explanation of Browser Permissions
The Extension requests only the minimal set of Chrome permissions required to perform its core function:
• `sidePanel`
Why it is required: Enables rendering the side panel UI next to your Microsoft Teams web tab. This allows you to monitor message counts, filter history by date or sender, and trigger export downloads seamlessly without disrupting your Teams navigation.
• `storage`
Why it is required: Used to store temporary extraction state, sender lists, and your UI filter settings locally in your Chrome browser's internal extension storage. This data never leaves your computer.
• `downloads`
Why it is required: Allows the Extension to save your generated export files (HTML, CSV, JSON, Markdown, and ZIP archives) directly to your computer's local Downloads folder upon your explicit click.
• `activeTab` and `scripting`
Why it is required: Permits the Extension to run content scripts on the active Microsoft Teams tab when you open the side panel or click an extraction action. This script automates smooth upward scrolling to load older message history and parses visible chat elements.
• `host_permissions` (`https://teams.microsoft.com/*`, `https://teams.live.com/*`, `https://*.teams.cloud.microsoft/*`)
Why it is required: Restricted strictly to official Microsoft Teams web domains. This permission allows the Extension to read DOM elements (message text, timestamps, reactions, sender names) and network data on Microsoft Teams web pages to compile your export files locally.
4. Enterprise Data Security & Compliance
Because all data processing remains 100% confined to your local web browser session, your Microsoft Teams messages, account credentials, and corporate file attachments remain fully protected under your organisation's existing IT security and privacy policies.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
Any updates to this policy will be included in future extension releases and published on the Chrome Web Store.
6. Contact Information
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy, please contact the developer through the support section of the Chrome Web Store listing.
