If you want a reliable, passive-noise solution for short flights or group travel that requires zero setup and works instantly with any seatback jack, choose EXMAX HWE-05; if you need a modern wireless bridge to connect your own premium headphones to an airplane's audio system without the bulk of disposable gear, choose ElecMoga Airplane.
As someone who wears glasses daily, I know how quickly standard over-ear headphones can become a source of pain on long hauls. The temple arms of frames often press painfully against the ear cups, creating pressure points that ruin the listening experience before the movie even starts. This specific conflict between eyewear comfort and headphone design is the deciding factor for many travelers, yet most comparisons miss it entirely. You are likely standing at a crossroads right now, trying to decide whether to stick with the tried-and-true wired option that guarantees compatibility or to invest in a wireless adapter that transforms your existing gear. Both products aim to solve the same problem: getting audio from the plane to your ears. However, they approach the solution from completely different angles. One is a dedicated, single-purpose device designed for immediate use out of the box, while the other is a technological enabler that turns non-bluetooth equipment into a wireless station. Understanding which philosophy fits your travel style is crucial. If you value simplicity and guaranteed fit above all else, one path is clear. If you prioritize sound quality and personalization through your own favorite headphones, the other is the only logical choice.
• EXMAX HWE-05: Offers immediate plug-and-play convenience with soft leatherette cushions that minimize ambient noise passively, but lacks active Bluetooth connectivity and is best suited for short-term use where you don't want to manage batteries.
• ElecMoga Airplane: Provides a modern wireless connection via Bluetooth 5.4 with low latency support for high-quality codecs like aptX HD, but requires you to already own compatible headphones and manage its own charging cycle.
• The Verdict: Choose EXMAX if you want a disposable, no-fuss solution for occasional flights; choose ElecMoga if you are a frequent flyer who wants to upgrade their current audio setup to be wire-free.
The EXMAX HWE-05 is built around the concept of frictionless accessibility. Its design prioritizes being lightweight and compact, weighing in at just 50 grams, which makes it feel almost unnoticeable when worn. The construction features a slim headband that adjusts easily to conform to different head shapes, ranging from younger students to adults. For a traveler, this adjustability is key because it ensures the headphones sit securely without slipping, even if you have a smaller or larger head than average. The ear placement is "over the ear," utilizing plush padded earpads made of soft leatherette. These cushions are designed to softly surround the entire ear, providing a seal that blocks out some of the droning cabin noise without needing complex electronics.
This product shines specifically for open ear headphones for glasses wearers who prioritize comfort over long-term durability. The soft foam cushion cradles your ears, and the materials are chosen to reduce pressure points during the flight journey. Because the headphones rely on a 3.5mm plug with an extended cord of roughly 150 cm (about 5 feet), there is zero latency and no pairing process required. You simply plug it into the standard audio jack found on almost every airline seatback. This makes it an ideal companion for movies, games, or educational content where you want to dive straight into the audio without fumbling with settings.

However, the trade-off is clear: these are not meant to last forever. While they possess good impact resistance and toughness to resist scratches and wear, they are engineered as disposable stereo headphones. They are perfect for school testing, tour groups, hotels, or a few months of light use in a classroom setting. If you are looking for a permanent addition to your carry-on bag that you will use year after year, this might not be the investment you want. They are also strictly wired, meaning you cannot move freely away from the seatback unit. But for the specific user who wants a pair of bluetooth headphones for glasses wearers that work immediately upon boarding and require no charging, the EXMAX HWE-05 offers a level of reliability that electronic adapters sometimes struggle to match.
The ElecMoga Airplane adapter takes a completely different approach by acting as a bridge between your existing high-end headphones and the legacy audio systems on airplanes. Instead of giving you a new pair of speakers, it gives you freedom. This device supports Bluetooth 5.4, which is a significant upgrade in terms of stability and range, offering a communication distance of up to 39 feet without obstacles. This means you can move around the galley or stand up without losing your connection. The inclusion of Qualcomm chipset technology allows for advanced audio decoding, supporting formats like aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, and AAC. For audiophiles, this is a game-changer, as it ensures that the sound quality transmitted from the plane matches the fidelity of your own expensive headphones.
For those who find that standard earbuds or headphones for glasses wearers cause discomfort due to tight clamping forces, this adapter is a lifesaver. You can select your own pair of over-ear headphones that you know fit perfectly with your frame arms, perhaps ones with memory foam or adjustable tension. The adapter itself is incredibly small, weighing only 6.5 grams, and comes in a sleek black design. It connects via an auxiliary cable to the airplane jack and then broadcasts wirelessly to your chosen headphones. It also functions as a receiver, allowing you to connect two devices simultaneously, such as two AirPods or two separate headphones, making it great for couples sharing a screen.
The primary consideration here is power management. Unlike the EXMAX, which needs no battery, the ElecMoga requires charging. It has a lithium-battery energy content of 300 watt-hours and needs about 2 hours to charge fully. While the standby time is sufficient for most flights, you must remember to charge it before you travel. If you forget, you are left with a useless brick rather than a working headset. Additionally, the installation type is wired, meaning you still need to run a thin cable from the adapter to the seatback jack. However, once connected, the experience is purely wireless. This product is for the traveler who refuses to compromise on sound quality and wants to avoid the flimsy feel of disposable headphones. It transforms the standard airplane audio jack into a modern, lag-free transmitter that respects your personal audio preferences.
• Best for immediate use with no charging → EXMAX HWE-05, as it works the moment you plug it in with its 3.5mm jack.
• Best for sound fidelity and codec support → ElecMoga Airplane, thanks to its aptX HD and AAC support for high-resolution audio streaming.
• Best for glasses wearers seeking minimal weight → EXMAX HWE-05, given its ultra-light 50g design and soft leatherette padding.
• Best for moving around the cabin → ElecMoga Airplane, offering a 39-foot wireless range compared to the fixed 150cm cord of the EXMAX.
• Best for shared listening → ElecMoga Airplane, as it supports connecting two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.
• Best for budget-conscious occasional flyers → EXMAX HWE-05, since it eliminates the need to buy a separate adapter or charge a battery.
• Best for long-term durability → ElecMoga Airplane, assuming you care for the adapter, whereas the EXMAX is designed for limited reuse.
• Best for low-latency gaming or movies → ElecMoga Airplane, utilizing Bluetooth 5.4 and low latency modes to keep audio synchronized with video.
In my opinion, if you are a frequent traveler who owns a pair of comfortable headphones that work well with your glasses, the ElecMoga Airplane is the superior choice. The ability to leverage your own audio hardware, combined with the stability of Bluetooth 5.4 and high-quality codecs, creates a far more enjoyable and personalized experience than a generic disposable set. However, if you fly infrequently and simply want a hassle-free way to watch a movie without worrying about batteries, cables, or fitting issues, the EXMAX HWE-05 remains a solid, reliable backup. For me, the freedom of wireless connectivity and the potential for better sound quality makes the ElecMoga the winner, especially for those who understand that the right fit for glasses wearers often means using headphones you already love.
Yes, both options address this need differently; the EXMAX uses soft, pliable leatherette pads that gently rest on the ears, while the ElecMoga allows you to choose your own headphones with a fit that accommodates your specific frame size.
Absolutely, the ElecMoga Airplane requires a full 2-hour charge cycle to ensure you have enough battery life for the duration of your trip and to avoid mid-flight disconnection.
The ElecMoga Airplane supports connecting two Bluetooth headphones simultaneously, whereas the EXMAX HWE-05 is a single-user wired device that connects directly to one audio source.
The EXMAX HWE-05 provides decent stereo sound with passive noise cancellation for the price, but it cannot match the clarity and dynamic range offered by the ElecMoga adapter paired with high-quality headphones.
