Exile Trade Companion ("the Extension") is designed to improve your trading workflow on the official Path of Exile (PoE 1 & PoE 2) trade websites. We take your privacy very seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension handles information and why specific browser permissions are requested.
In short: **We do NOT collect, transmit, store on remote servers, sell, or monetize any of your personal data.**

### A. Local Browser Storage Only
All data generated by your use of the Extension is stored strictly on your local machine using the Chrome Storage API (`chrome.storage.local`):
- **Saved Trade Bookmarks:** The search URLs, titles, and categories you choose to bookmark.
- **Search History:** Recent search links recorded locally while browsing the trade site for convenient re-use.
- **User Preferences:** Display settings (e.g., price badges toggle, mod highlighting, sound notification toggle, active league selection, and currency exchange rates).
**None of this data is ever sent to our servers or any third-party analytics provider.**

## 3. Explanation of Requested Permissions
The Extension adheres strictly to the principle of least privilege, requesting only the bare minimum permissions necessary for its functionality:
### 1. `storage`
- **Why it is needed:** To save your trade bookmarks, folders, recent search history, and settings locally in your browser.
- **Privacy impact:** Purely local to your device. Without this permission, your bookmarks and preferences would be wiped every time you restart your browser.
### 2. Host Permission: `https://poe.ninja/*`
- **Why it is needed:** To fetch public in-game currency exchange rates (e.g., Chaos Orb to Divine Orb ratio) from poe.ninja's public API.
- **Privacy impact:** The Extension sends standard anonymous HTTP GET requests to fetch public currency market tables. No user identifiers, cookies, or account details are sent with these requests.
### 3. Content Scripts on `*://*.pathofexile.com/trade*` and `trade2*`
- **Why it is needed:** To inject the in-page bookmarks drawer, display equivalent currency price badges next to item listings, and provide copy confirmation feedback on whisper buttons.
- **Privacy impact:** Operates solely on official Path of Exile trade pages. The Extension does not read account credentials, session tokens, or personal information.

## 4. Are Any Unnecessary Permissions Requested?
**No.** Many other extensions request overly broad permissions such as:
- `<all_urls>` (access to every website you visit) – **NOT REQUESTED**
- `tabs` (inspecting all your browser tabs, titles, and histories) – **NOT REQUESTED**
- `cookies` (reading your browser cookies or login sessions) – **NOT REQUESTED**
- `webRequest` (monitoring your network traffic) – **NOT REQUESTED**
Exile Trade Companion deliberately avoids all of these invasive permissions.

The Extension only connects to:
- **poe.ninja:** Solely to retrieve public currency market prices. Subject to poe.ninja's public availability.
The Extension contains no trackers, no Google Analytics, no telemetry, and no advertising code.

You retain complete control over your data at all times:
- You can delete any individual bookmark or all search history at any time through the popup interface.
- You can export your data to a JSON backup file or import existing backups.
- Uninstalling the Extension instantly and permanently removes all stored local data from your browser.
