Amandeep is a Graduate Research Assistant in the Beall Group, where he is supporting the team’s work on cellular therapy for type 1 diabetes. His current focus is on the development of a unique type of brain cell derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), with the aim of protecting islets during transplantation procedures.
Amandeep’s fascination for science began during his undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at Aston University in Birmingham. Intrigued by the possibility of carrying out impactful research, he then went onto complete a PhD focused on in vitro blood-brain barrier modelling using human cells in the lab for drug discovery applications.
Using his analytical and in vitro modelling skills from his training, Amandeep now contributes to the Beall Group’s clinically focused research. He is particularly motivated by opportunities to advance human-relevant models that reduce and replace the use of animals in research.
Outside of the lab, Amandeep enjoys reading Sikh literature, volunteering in the Sikh community and travelling to new places. If you'd like to get in touch, you can contact Amandeep on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/in/1amandeepsingh) or send an email to a.singh7@exeter.ac.uk.
