Keep the Music Playing Gala

The Excelsior Band Preservation will host its inaugural fundraiser, Keep the Music Playing, at Byrne Hall, Spring Hill College, on November 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.  Keep the Music Playing will feature performances by The Excelsior Band and its educational program, The Jazz Studio.  

This fundraiser supports our mission of preserving the Excelsior Band’s history and ensuring its future. The Excelsior Band has provided entertainment for 142 years along the Gulf Coast. 

The Excelsior Band is believed to be the oldest continuous marching jazz band in the United States. The band is the recipient of numerous awards to include but not limited to the 2013 Alabama Folk Heritage Award and 2022 National Endowment of Arts Heritage Award. 

The Jazz Studio, in its 10th year, serves as the vehicle to ensure the future. The Jazz Studio provides year-round music instruction emphasizing jazz to Greater Mobile area youth, 6 th - 12th grades. The Jazz Studio meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month in the Murphy Fine Arts Building, Spring Hill College, 11:00 AM -1:00 PM.

The Jazz Studio, a program of The Excelsior Band Preservation, is excited to celebrate its 11th year by hosting an Open House. Join us at the Murphy Fine Arts Building at Spring Hill College on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. 

During the Open House, attendees will have the chance to connect with current students and parents involved in The Jazz Studio. We encourage interested students and parents to join us and learn more about this year-round program.
