Warstriker
Written By Isaac Travers
SFX: The hum of machinery reverberates through a vast underground bunker. The sounds of engineers working—tools clattering, typewriters clicking, and the occasional muffled explosion from above—create a tense atmosphere. Heavy footsteps echo as General Krogstad strides into the room, flanked by a group of German scientists huddled around a massive rocket labeled "War Striker."
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(commanding, authoritative)
Report, gentlemen. Is the rocket ready?
DR.KRAUS
(nervously adjusting his glasses)
Herr General, we’ve completed the final checks. The War Striker is ready for a test flight, but... there’s something unusual about the guidance system.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(impatient)
Unusual? We don’t have time for doubts, Doctor Kraus. The Führer expects results.
DR.KRAUS
(explaining, pointing to a control panel)
It’s the device we recovered from that arms dealer. The... sonic screwdriver, as they called it. We’ve tried integrating it with the War Striker’s systems, but it’s behaving unpredictably. It’s like... it knows it doesn’t belong here.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(curious but dismissive)
A screwdriver that knows? You’re talking nonsense. This is a weapon of war, not a science fiction tale.
DR.KRAUS
But General, we ran the diagnostics, and it’s almost as if it needs something... or someone to function properly. Its energy signatures fluctuate, and it resists any manual input. Without this device, our targeting system is no better than conventional methods.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Then make it work. I want to see the War Striker take flight. We need to strike fear into the hearts of our enemies, and this... tool is the key.
SFX: Alarms begin to blare, and the sound of engines powering up fills the room. The countdown begins as the War Striker is prepared for the test launch.
ANNOUNCER
(over PA system)
Attention! WarStriker test launch in ten...nine... eight…
SFX: The rocket’s engines roar to life, vibrating the entire facility. Scientists frantically work the controls, sweat dripping as the countdown continues.
DR.KRAUS
(watching the readings, worried)
Guidance systems are fluctuating. It won’t respond!
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(growing angry)
What do you mean, not responding?
DR.KRAUS
It’s... locked us out. The controls aren’t stabilizing. If we fire now, we’ll lose the rocket!
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(furious)
Fix it, Kraus! Fire the damned thing!
SFX: The countdown reaches zero, and the War Striker attempts to launch. A loud mechanical groan is heard, followed by sputtering and clanking noises. The engines die out, and the rocket remains grounded. The room falls into a tense, stunned silence.
ANNOUNCER
(over PA system)
Test unsuccessful. WarStriker in need of Immediate repairs.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(slamming his fist on a table)
Scheisse! What happened?
DR.KRAUS
(frantically checking controls)
The sonic... it’s interfering with the launch systems. It’s like it’s actively resisting us.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(seething, but intrigued)
So, this screwdriver is more than just some trinket. It’s protecting itself.
DR.KRAUS
General, I believe this device is keyed to its original owner... it can’t be activated by anyone else. We’ve tried everything, but without whoever wielded it before, we can’t access its full potential.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(coldly thoughtful)
Then we find the owner. Whoever they are, they’re the key to our victory. And once we have them, we will show them the true power of the Reich.
SFX:The room hums with quiet determination, the scientists exchanging nervous glances as the ominous task looms ahead. The sonic’s faint hum fades into silence.
[Scene: A German Forest near Herzog Manor]
SFX: The familiar, wheezing groan of the TARDIS materializing echoes through the dense woods. The blue box stands hidden among towering trees, shrouded by mist and the distant sounds of warplanes overhead.
DOCTOR
(stepping out, adjusting his coat with an excited glint in his eyes)
ah, the fresh scent of pine, and a faint whiff of diesel fumes. Europe, if I’m not mistaken. Mid-20th century, judging by the smell. Lovely time period—if you ignore the odd war or two.
SKYLER
(following him, looking around cautiously)
You mean another war. This place feels... tense. And those sounds... Doctor, where are we exactly?
DOCTOR
I'm not sure about it Skyler. Though the specifics are a tad foggy. Could be France, could be Belgium... maybe somewhere more... Tranquil?
SFX: The forest is eerily quiet except for distant gunfire and the occasional rumble of artillery. The Doctor takes out his sonic screwdriver and scans the area, frowning slightly.
SKYLER
Should we be worried?
DOCTOR
Oh, always. But that's half the fun, isn’t it?
SFX: As they move deeper into the forest, the crack of a twig underfoot stops them in their tracks. Two German guards emerge from the underbrush, rifles aimed squarely at the Doctor and Skyler.
GUARD 1
(German accent, shouting)
Hands up! Stop where you are!
GUARD 2
(cocking his rifle)
Identity papers, now!
DOCTOR
(raising his hands calmly, with a disarming smile)
Oh, charming reception. Terribly sorry, no papers on me. Lost them somewhere between... well, somewhere and nowhere.
SKYLER
(tense, whispering to the Doctor)
This isn’t good, is it?
DOCTOR
Not particularly. But chin up, Skyler; friendliness first, panic later.
GUARD 1
(angry, motioning with his rifle)
You are spies!
DOCTOR
Now, hold on, that’s a bit presumptive. More like tourists, really. Very lost tourists.
SFX: The guards are about to take more aggressive action when another officer appears from the trees, dressed in a sharp uniform with a more polished demeanor. He steps between the guards and the Doctor, scrutinizing the newcomers.
OFFICER (IAN FLEMING)
(authoritative but calm, in German)
Halt! Lower your weapons. I will take them in for questioning.
GUARD 2
(hesitant)
But sir, they—
OFFICER (IAN FLEMING)
(firmly)
I said, I will handle this. Get back to your patrol.
GUARD 1
Yes sir
SFX: The guards reluctantly lower their weapons and step back, giving a wary look to the Doctor and Skyler before disappearing back into the forest.
OFFICER (IAN FLEMING)
(cont’d)
(switching to English, with a clipped, educated accent)
You two, come with me. Now.
DOCTOR
(grinning with curiosity)
Well, aren’t you a breath of fresh air? I’m guessing you’re not here for the scenery.
SKYLER
Doctor, do we really want to—
DOCTOR
(interrupting)
Not to worry, Skyler. I’m sure our new friend here just wants a friendly chat. Lead the way, officer.
SFX: They follow the officer deeper into the forest, eventually reaching a nondescript warehouse tucked away from sight. The officer opens the door, ushering them inside. The dimly lit space is cluttered with crates and ammunition. The officer closes the door behind them, locking it with urgency.
OFFICER (IAN FLEMING)
(in a low voice, with a sense of relief)
We should be safe here for a moment.
SFX: Suddenly, the officer turns on the guard stationed inside the warehouse, pulling out a concealed pistol and firing a single shot. The guard collapses, stunned but not fatally wounded, just enough to ensure he won't raise the alarm.
SKYLER
(alarmed)
Doctor!
DOCTOR
(calmly inspecting the situation)
Well, that’s one way to make an entrance.
OFFICER (IAN FLEMING)
(turning back to them, removing his cap with a smile)
My apologies for the dramatics, but I couldn't have you two taken in by the actual Gestapo, now, could I?
DOCTOR
(narrowing his eyes, recognizing him)
Wait a moment... that face and that accent. I know you, don’t I?
OFFICER (IAN FLEMING)
(grinning, a hint of mischief in his eyes)
Seems people have a tendency for that, the name’s Fleming. Ian Fleming. I’m here on a mission, though not the kind I usually do. You two are a bit off the beaten path, aren’t you?
DOCTOR
(smiling broadly, delighted at the reveal)
Ian Fleming! The Ian Fleming? Well, now this is a treat. I love your books, Well, I will love them.
IAN FLEMING
(chuckling)
Funny, I never knew I would be writing books
DOCTOR
oh don't worry, you'll find out sooner or later.
SKYLER
Doctor. Can I have a quick word with you privately?
DOCTOR
Absolutely
The Doctor Goes closer to Skyler and has a quick chat privately.
SKYLER
you seem to know quite a bit about this Fleming bloke
DOCTOR
That's a good part, Before Ian wrote the James Bond series he was in fact the real life Version of his own character, He was a part of the British Royal Navy and got promoted to lieutenant commander. He knew just about any that he worked with during the war from Roald Dahl and even his step cousin Christopher Lee.
SKYLER
Now that I have to say, it's pretty cool. But what would he be doing here?
IAN FLEMING
Well, you see my dear, MI5 have gotten word from the Allied forces that the Nazis are building Something that could change the course of the war.
DOCTOR
Then what type of weapon would it be then?
IAN FLEMING
The general in charge, Mr Krogstad wanted to have some of the best minds to come up with plans for this weapon, including Einstein,
DOCTOR
However he knew that the right thing to do was not get involved.
IAN FLEMING
Exactly, For the last few months they've been working non-stop building the so-called rocket, They call the war striker. I was sent here to try and figure out what's with this rocket and stop it before it tries to attack Britain.
DOCTOR
Now that's what I call being a hero
SKYLER
But this is 1944, we all knew that Germany didn't win.
DOCTOR
Think about it Skyler, history can change drastically if dealt into the wrong hands. We all know about the butterfly effect. If one thing happens then a massive domino effect falls into place.
SKYLER
And it goes on into a continuous cycle
DOCTOR
And that's why we're here to stop it, So then, Ian, are you willing to help us?
IAN FLEMING
I do anything to end this war and assure that no lives are risked by hitler’s forces
DOCTOR
Excellent, now then What's the plan?
SFX: Ian Fleming spreads a detailed map across a wooden table, smoothing out the edges as the Doctor and Skyler peer over it.
IAN FLEMING
(pointing at the map)
As you can see here, this map is the entire layout of Herzog Manor. Underneath the house is where the rocket has been stored
SKYLER
(studying the map)
So that's where the war striker’s being made.
DOCTOR
Well, obviously you have to be a bit hush-hush when building a giant rocket, Wouldn't want any plans to come over and spot it
IAN FLEMING:
A demonstration of the rocket will be happening tonight. Members of the High Command are going to sip champagne as they watch the rocket launch. The target is onto England, killing the civilians in the process.
SKYLER
(horrified)
Civilians? That’s barbaric.
DOCTOR
(grimly)
Typical, unfortunately. What’s the payload? How powerful is this thing?
IAN FLEMING
(leaning forward, speaking quietly)
Powerful enough to obliterate everything in a three-mile radius.
DOCTOR
(leaning back, appalled)
That’d be worse than the Blitz. Far worse.
IAN FLEMING
Now the best way to Disarm they rocket is If we can get to the bunker underneath the manor, But the manor is heavily guarded. It won’t be easy.
DOCTOR
Easy is boring. Hijacking a dangerous super weapon superweapon? That’s positively thrilling!
IAN FLEMING
(smirking)
Glad you’re up for the challenge. But we’ll need more than just enthusiasm, Doctor. We’ll need precision.
SFX:Ian steps to a side table and uncorks a bottle of red wine, pouring three glasses. He hands one to Skyler, one to the Doctor, and keeps one for himself.
IAN FLEMING
To courage, cleverness, and perhaps a touch of madness.
DOCTOR
(grinning)
Well, two out of three isn’t bad.
SFX: They clink their glasses lightly. Skyler looks uneasy but drinks alongside them.
SKYLER:
So how will we be able to get in?
IAN FLEMING
(pointing at the map again)
The manor’s eastern wing is lightly guarded, mostly administrative offices. From there, we can access the underground tunnels that lead to the launch pad.
DOCTOR
And the rocket itself? How far along is it?
IAN FLEMING
(sipping his wine)
Near completion. But there’s one snag.
SKYLER
(rolling her eyes)
Of course there is.
IAN FLEMING
They’re still struggling to get the rocket’s ignition systems to work. Some advanced piece of technology they’ve “acquired” seems to be the key.
DOCTOR
(freezing for a moment, realization dawning)
Let me guess. Sonic, cylindrical, makes a bit of a whirring noise?
IAN FLEMING
(surprised)
How did you—
DOCTOR
(interrupting, with mock exasperation)
Because it was mine! That sonic screwdriver. Seems like that arm dealer that Krieg and I met a few years back Succeeded in their mission. Luckily, once we get inside the mansion, we finally figure out some unanswered questions.
SKYLER
So, without your old sonic, the rocket’s just a very expensive hunk of metal?
DOCTOR
Precisely! Which means if we can get to it first, we can render it completely useless.
IAN FLEMING
Or, better yet, turn it against them.
DOCTOR
(grinning mischievously)
I like the way you think, Mr. Fleming.
IAN FLEMING
The launch demonstration is at 10 o'clock sharp. We’ll need to move fast. The tunnels are guarded, but I’ve arranged for a small distraction at the western gate. It should buy us just enough time to get in.
SKYLER
And what if it doesn’t?
IAN FLEMING
Then we improvise.
DOCTOR
(patting Skyler on the shoulder)
Exactly that. Come on you too, we've got work to do
Meanwhile, back at Hertzog manor The war striker rocket is being Repaired for its proper demonstration.General Krogstad observes Dr Kraus and his mean on the progress they are making
DR.KRAUS
You want me to speed up process for the rocket,I'm telling you half these orders you want will be impossible to complete
GENERAL KROGSTAD
The instructions are simple. The Warstiker is to be completed almost immediately.
DR.KRAUS
For God sake Krogstad, my men and I are working as fast as we can. You could at least have some patience
GENERAL KROGSTAD
I have had much patience with you the last two months. But it’s wearing very thin
DR.KRAUS
But could the rocket go wrong again? You know that Sonic device within the rocket itself could not only destroy England, but half of Europe Itself could face the entire chain reaction of events
Krogstad pulls out his Loaded Revolver and placing it near Kraus's stomach Preparing to shoot
GENERAL KROGSTAD
You will carry onwards as you are ordered. You don't want the same mistake to happen to your family now do we?
DR.KRAUS
Of course, not, sir
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Good now, get back to work.
DR.KRAUS
Gentlemen, you heard what he said. Lets get too it
As one of the Engineer’s tries to reprogram the rocket, he starts to hear the sonic screwdriver going off inside the rocket
ENGINEER
Gottin Himmel, It looks beautiful
The blast on the sonic Causes the technician to be fried within seconds, An engineer calls Kraus immediately to get help
DR.KRAUS
What's going on down there?
TECHNICIAN
It's the engineer, He got too close to the rocket. That sonic device must've fried his brains out in seconds.
DR.KRAUS
Then work around it. I'm not risking any more people getting hurt, Should've warned me about the dangers of that thing.
As repairs carry on for the rocket, the sonic starts pulsating violently almost like a ticking time bomb way to explode in a few hours time.
[Scene: Exterior – Herzog Manor, Night]
SFX:outside the manor, Searchlights sweep across the skies As Guards patrol the area, The Doctor, Skyler and Ian Manage to sneak their way through Close to the main entrance without getting spotted .
IAN FLEMING
(whispering)
There. That path leads to the side entrance. That Guard patrol rotates every five minutes. We’ll slip through right after the bell tower chimes.
DOCTOR
(fidgeting with his current coat)
Must say, I’m not exactly blending in with the whole “timeless professor” aesthetic.
IAN FLEMING
(pulls out a folded coat from his satchel)
Thought you might say that. Try this on.
SFX: Fabric rustling.
DOCTOR
(grinning)
Blue velvet? My dear Ian, are you trying to make me look dashing?
IAN FLEMING
Not trying. It’s a given. You can keep it, by the way. Consider it a gift—for saving Europe.
SKYLER
Fellas, Can we please focus? Your old sonic, atomic weapons, end of the war—it’s all kind of on a timer, remember?
DOCTOR
You're definitely right, You two carry out your mission as a party guest but I go down to the main cellar. If anything bad happens, I'll let you know via the cat badge.
IAN FLEMING
Strange I never knew cat badges would be useful In the scenario
DOCTOR
You could say I'm a man of inventing gadget sorts.
The doctor then sneaks off as he carefully makes his way to a Secret passage to the main cellar
IAN FLEMING
I have to say you're doctor is definitely a clever man, He definitely make it as a good Armour for MI5
SKYLER
Well, he sure knows what he's doing.
IAN FLEMING
Come on, my dear, let's get to the party
[Scene: Interior – Herzog Manor, Main Hall]
SFX: Elegant classical music plays softly in the background. Murmurs of the German elite mingle with the clinking of champagne glasses. The sound of boots on marble floors echoes faintly.
WAITER
Greetings Dear guest and welcome to Hertzog Manor, I get you a drink for you too
SKYLER
Just a simple glass of champagne will do
WAITER
Here you go, my dear, and what about you sir?
IAN FLEMING
A Bourbon whiskey will be preferable for me
WAITER
Don't worry, I'll talk to the barman about that
The waiter then leaves as Skyler takes a few sips of her champagne.
SKYLER
That's odd. I thought that you'd have a vodka martini.
IAN FLEMING
Shakened, not stirred?
SKYLER
You tried it
IAN FLEMING
It's only suitable for most people, others find it rather Horrid
SKYLER
Oh, I see
IAN FLEMING
(under his breath to Skyler)
Now remember Skyler, we’re here to observe. Best to keep your eyes on Krogstad and his officers. Look for anything suspicious.
SKYLER
(sipping Champagne)
Hard to miss the swastikas and death stares.
IAN FLEMING
(deadpan)
That is the suspicious part, We best be cautious
SFX:The gentle clinking of champagne glasses fades as a hush falls over the room. A lone violinist ends his piece. Boots march with precision as Krogstad steps up to a raised platform. A microphone whines slightly as he adjusts it.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(commanding, voice booming)
Meine Damen und Herren… comrades of a great vision, officers of progress. Tonight— history shall witness its turning point.
SFX: Polite applause. Murmurs of anticipation.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
For too long, this war has dragged across fields and cities, costing blood and resources. But here, we stand on the brink of a new era. One not built on slow attrition… but swift, decisive power.
SFX:A few champagne glasses clink as guests murmur among themselves.*
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Below this very manor lies the pinnacle of our scientific might, the War Striker. A rocket unlike any other marvel of engineering, a gift from minds the world has yet to understand. Powered not only by German ingenuity… but something far beyond it.
SKYLER
(quietly to Ian)
He just spoke about the doctor’s sonic screwdriver.
IAN FLEMING
(nods subtly)
Sounds like he doesn’t even know what he’s playing with.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Tonight, we launch not merely a missile… but a message. To Belgium, to France and Great Britain. To every trembling heart still holding onto hope. The Reich does not retreat. The Reich evolves.
SFX: Louder applause.. A waiter leans toward Ian, handing him a wine glass. The identity papers nearly slip from Ian's coat—unnoticed… for now.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Let the world remember this night. For this rocket… will scorch its name into the future.
After a quick drink of champagne, a German officer named Viner alerts Krogstad of the intruders.
OFFICER VINER
General, we have an issue
GENERAL KROGSTAD
What is it, Viner?
OFFICER VINER
I've been checking for the guestlist and it seems to be an order, sir, but do you happen to know who those two people are down there
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Those two weren’t invited, not even that officer. Come with me, we'll have a little chat to them, We might try and get some answers out of them
OFFICER VINER
Yes, general
Viner and a number of his troops spot Ian and Skyler and Pursue after them
SKYLER
Crap, they spotted us
IAN FLEMING
Don't worry, I know exactly what to do
OFFICER VINER
(shouting in German)
You there, show us your Papers! Now!
IAN FLEMING
If you insist
SFX:Papers shuffled, silence… then the unmistakable sound of a pistol being cocked.
OFFICER VINER
(with icy menace)
Wait. This identification... is forged. This man, he’s no officer.
IAN FLEMING
(calmly)
Oh dear.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Of course you're a British spy.
SFX: All eyes turn to Skyler. Then murmurs ripple as realization dawns.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(smirking)
Take them both. Down to the rocket bay. Shall show them what their country will never survive from.
[Scene: Interior – Rocket Bay, beneath Herzog Manor]
SFX: The steady hum of machinery. A mechanical hiss. Echoes of workers speaking in German. Tools clanking against metal.
DOCTOR
(whispering to himself)
Now time for me to find that rocket then, hopefully there's still enough time before it gets launched.
SFX: Footsteps approach. A clipboard is slapped into a palm.
DR. KRAUS
Wait you there, You're not one of my assistants. Are you the examiner
DOCTOR
Why yes, though I’m more of a freelance worker. They call me… The Rocket Inspector. Lovely place you’ve got down here, Doctor?
DR. KRAUS
Kraus, Doctor Kraus.
DOCTOR
Well then Doctor Kraus, I'll be rather curious on how progress has been going in a way
DR. KRAUS
(suspicious)
Do Show me your credentials.
DOCTOR
Oh, I never carry identification. Very bad for spies.
DR. KRAUS
(laughs, somewhat amused)
Hmm. You’re bold, I’ll give you that. Well, if you’re here to see the Warstriker, follow me.
SFX: They walk across a steel gantry.
DOCTOR
(gazes at the missile)
Goodness me… you’ve really outdone yourselves. Although... there’s something here you don’t quite understand, isn’t there?
DR. KRAUS
Yes, We believe the power source inside Is something not of this world?. It’s unresponsive. Some sort of... sonic device.
DOCTOR
Oh yes, my old sonic screwdriver.
DR. KRAUS
The Device belongs to you?
DOCTOR
Oh yes I lost it a few years back, presumably 1938, It got stolen by an Arms dealer who was visiting New York at that time.
DR. KRAUS
I know who you're talking about. A short while ago, Krogstad attended one of his travelling auctions in Munich. He did pay a hefty price of about 13,000 marks without knowing what it was.
Pause
and now I know who its true owner is. I'm telling doctor, You must get rid of this device before it destroys the whole of Europe
DOCTOR
I'm happy to get it out for you, but you gotta be very very careful. This thing is like a ticking time bomb now that the Nazi’s have turned it into a more dangerous weapon.
DR. KRAUS
You must and you better be quick, Krogstad could come back down here any moment
SFX:Alarms begin to sound in the distance. The Doctor turns at the sound of marching boots. Two guards shove Ian and Skyler forward, bruised but alive.
DOCTOR
(eyes wide)
Ian! Skyler! What on earth—?
IAN FLEMING
Your coat, Doctor. That bloody velvet coat gave me away.
DOCTOR
(touches the lapel)
Oh. Ohhh. Of course it did. These pockets really needed to be emptied out first.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(enters, voice booming)
Now then You all shall witness it firsthand. A new Reich, built on the ashes of your precious Allies.
DOCTOR
(calmly)
Or maybe… just maybe… you’re all about to make the biggest mistake in history.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Nonsense, with this much power my army will become most powerful force that the world will ever see
DOCTOR
I'm warning you now Krogstad, You mustn't fire that rocket. Inside it is an energy source way more powerful beyond your comprehension.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
You really think I'm that stupid. I do know that the sonic device belongs to you. The arms dealer said it himself when he assured me that you would come after it again someday.
DOCTOR
Old fiend he was, He told me he was working for someone, in which I never got the answer.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
Was he referring to infinacore by any chance
SKYLER
You mean THAT Infinacore
GENERAL KROGSTAD
one and the same
SKYLER
But How? Infinacore doesn't even exist yet
DOCTOR
That's because the Arms dealer was a time traveler, no better than the Monk.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
No matter, Now is our chance for the Third Reich to take full control over europe, Kraus, Prepare the Rocket for launch
DR. KRAUS
No General, I won't fire this rocket, and neither will you.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
I warn you know, I'm gonna give you one more chance or you're gonna get killed with the rest of these spies.
IAN FLEMING
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
Ian then punches Krogstad,Causing his pistol to fly through the air and skid across the floor. A violent scuffle begins.
Skyler
Be careful Ian! He may be stronger than he looks!
SFX: Metal clangs. Grunting. Krogstad grabs a wrench, swings—misses. Ian tackles him toward the base of the rocket.
GENERAL KROGSTAD
(snarling)
You think you can stop this?!
IAN FLEMING:
No. But I can hold it long enough.
SFX: Krogstad shoves Ian back and reaches for a control lever, but a stray blow knocks him backward. He tumbles into a hatch on the side of the rocket. The door slams shut.
DR. KRAUS
(yelling)
Nein! Get him out! The sonic is active—any exposure now will—
SFX: A rising hum. Screaming from inside the rocket. A blinding flash erupts from within the hatch window.
DOCTOR:
(gravely)
That’s it. The sonic’s Emergency systems, Seems he knew that he was dealing with the wrong type of power.
SKYLER
(softly)
So what now?
DR. KRAUS
(snapping into action)
We must extract the device and remove it from the core before it overloads and takes the entire countryside with it!
DOCTOR:
Right. Hold that end yes, just like that. Now reverse the polarity on the guidance circuit—watch the flux line! No, not that wire, the green one! Unless you want to turn Britain into a river of lava!
SFX: Crackling. Energy pulsing. A power build-up slows… then cuts out.
DOCTOR
(relieved)
That’s it. The sonic's disconnected. We'll probably have five minutes before this thing explodes.
DR. KRAUS:
(holding the battered she onic screwdriver)
I’ll stay. This device… I need to make sure no one ever uses it again.
DOCTOR
(stunned)
Kraus—
DR. KRAUS
Let me do one good thing. I can reroute the launch. Make it look like a fireworks display— convince the officers to evacuate. But once the countdown starts… there’s no coming back.
IAN FLEMING
(respectfully)
You sure do have guts, Doctor Kraus.
DR. KRAUS
(to Ian)
And you have a future ahead of you. Something tells me your pen may be deadlier than your fists.
SFX: Kraus types in commands. Lights shift. A mechanical voice counts down in German. Sirens echo throughout the facility.
DR. KRAUS
(into intercom)
Achtung! Evacuate immediately! Malfunction in the rocket bay! This is not a drill!
DOCTOR
Well, looks like there's a cue to go, Ian, Skyler follow me this way. There's a passageway to get us out of here quicker.
SKYLER
Right behind you Doctor.
[Scene: Secret Passage – Beneath the Manor]
SFX:Running footsteps. Muffled booms overhead. Stone scraping open. The Doctor, Skyler, and Ian sprint through a dark corridor lit by flickering torches.
SKYLER
(panting)
Tell me Doctor, Do you always find secret passages in Nazi castles.
DOCTOR
Only the well-decorated ones.
IAN FLEMING
(grinning)
This’ll make one hell of a chapter.
SFX:A deafening explosion above. Cracks appear in the stone walls. Dust falls.
SKYLER
That was the manor.
DOCTOR
And the Warstriker. And hopefully every last blueprint with it.
SFX: They burst out into the night air. Smoke billows in the distance. Fire glows against the horizon as the last remnants of Herzog Manor collapse in flame.
IAN FLEMING
(watching, solemn)
Farewell, Krogstad. And… to you too, Kraus.
DOCTOR
(quietly, holding his new blue velvet coat)
One less monster. One more hero.
A few moments later, The Doctor,Skyler and Ian walk their way back to the tardis, all safe and sound.
DOCTOR
Here she is, all safe and sound
IAN FLEMING
That's peculiar. I never knew that you brought in one of the police Boxes, Are you secretly part of Scotland yard?
SKYLER
It's a long story how we got it like that. It's more like an underground base than the ones that you are familiar with back home.
IAN FLEMING
Oh, I see now, makes sense
DOCTOR
Well then What a fun little venture, but now it's my time to get back to things and see what's ahead.
IAN FLEMING
Doctor. Before you go, I just wanted to thank you for everything.
DOCTOR
The pleasure is all ours, though I do think it was you that was the hero in all this
IAN FLEMING
Thinking about it, I don't know how long the war is gonna go on for. But what should I do afterwards?
SKYLER
I'm not sure, maybe you can write about Your experiences of the war, even fictionalising parts in a way to grab the audience's attention.
DOCTOR
Maybe you can base the lead character on you
IAN FLEMING
That sounds like a fascinating idea. Like a novelist I could give it a try.
DOCTOR
Best you take it easy Ian and good luck
IAN FLEMING
And You too, Doctor.
The Doctor and Skyler enter into the tardis as the tardis door closes behind him.
SKYLER
Well that was a pretty cool meeting Ian Fleming, but do you think we've actually changed the course of history of him writing his stories?
DOCTOR
Don't worry, Skyler. We've only just inspired him. A few years after World War II, he moved to Jamaica and started writing the first ever James Bond book Casino Royale, and the rest as we all know is history.
SKYLER
What about the whole rocket shenanigans with the warstriker?
DOCTOR
Oh, he'll simply use that Inspiration in his third bond novel Moonraker, which reminds me I do actually have the first edition of it signed by himself
Skyler then opens the book only to find that Ian Fleming himself had signed the doctor’s copy of moonraker.
SKYLER
That's insane. How are you able to get this signed?
DOCTOR
You do realise I have a Time Machine and I met him a few years later. It would've been in an earlier incarnation, why don’t we give him a surprise, Somewhat of the final goodbye.
SKYLER
Sounds good to me
The Doctor pulls the main Lever of the console as The Tardis materialises from where Ian Fleming is standing. He is an absolute shock from what he has seen as the wooden box disappears from sight
IAN FLEMING
Fascinating, absolutely fascinating. That's another thing I wouldn't expect to see this evening, almost like I must've been dreaming.
Ian then walks off into an old car Travelling along the road looking forward to what is to come in this future
