What basal cognition can do for you (neuroscientists)

A recent double special issue of Philosophical Transactions B on 'basal cognition’ demonstrates how non-neural organisms, even unicellulars, have the potential to illuminate the evolution of cognition and the mechanisms that implement cognitive processes in biological systems, including those with nervous systems and complex brains. This talk aims to provide examples of research in the domain of basal cognition that may shed light on problems in neurosciences, specifically problems studied by speakers at this workshop.
