This year the Evergarden has proliferated, and its evolution is reshaping what is known about time, space and physics. Armed with cutting-edge technology and esoteric knowledge, we Cultivators are diving into the portal. We invite fellow curious minds to join in our research and discover the unknown within ourselves.

Embark on a mystical journey with the Evergardeners in a place where art, technology, and nature converge. Wander beneath the Laboratory's alien floral canopy and coruscating cloud organisms, step up to observe the transformation of the Evergarden tree and marvel at its new form as an Infinity Portal of mirrored depths. Peek at untold mysteries and change frequencies at the Console Station, and immerse yourself in the majestic comfort of the Eluvium Cove's luminous garden. 

Discover hidden stories in Diorama Lockers, tune the enchantment with the UV Spiral Pintographs, and contribute to the ever-evolving narrative of Evergarden by providing your own Psychic Imprint with our Camera Samskara. Evergarden is an enchanting tapestry of experiences, inviting you to explore, engage, and be transformed by its magical realms.

The Lore continues…

Seeds planted as origami butterflies placed last year inside the central Tree of Evergarden by the participants of Love Burn have sprouted, germinated, and transformed last year’s tree. With the Tree now morphed into a living entity of Evergarden Grove, the Tree’s center is a butterfly-hosted infinity portal set into motion by your presence. 

The Evergardeners that walk these Groves have merged with the organic manifestations of this tree portal entity, but also we are here to study, research, and activate the space’s magical properties. Organic elements of the tree have grown over onto Us as researchers of Evergarden Groves, as we have begun to merge forms with this powerful force. 

Alas, not only are we studying the tree, you, dear Burner, are also a part of the experiment. 

Community Involvement with our Art 

Our art is a fully interactive experience. Each piece encourages visitors to immerse themselves in our narrative of scientists exploring the unknown. Additionally, our art fits neatly within this year's theme and anyone searching for another camp to play in character will find it with us.

Camp Intentions for Participants

• Highlighting interactivity - getting people involved, whether our campers before and during, as well as engaging Love Burn participants to explore and engage with the space.

• Participants left feeling like they were given something - an experience, inspiration, connection, a gift or token.

• Participants left feeling like they were able to give something - Evergardeners are cultivators and we are ready and looking forward to sharing our art and engaging with the visitors of Evergarden as they gift their participation to us.

• What can Participants take away that feels introspective? - Is the thread we’ve built the narrative across our entire camp and within the individual spaces and experiences.

• How can you leave your impression? - Is the imprint and reaching for immediacy that we inspire our campers to ponder and integrate into their art and interactions within the camp and throughout Love Burn.

Evergarden Project Details

Infinity Portal (Tree) & LED Cloud Branches

Narrative:

An evolution of the previous year's infinity portal inside the central tree of Evergarden Grove.

Step inside! Seeds planted as origami butterflies placed last year inside the central Tree of Evergarden by the participants of Love Burn have sprouted, germinated, and transformed last year’s tree. With the Tree now morphed into a living entity of Evergarden Grove, the Tree’s center is a butterfly-hosted infinity portal set into motion by your presence. 

Description:

The Infinity Portal will be the functional and thematic center of the installation. Last year, visitors' most common wish was to crawl into the infinity portal tree, so this year we are making it a reality. 

Visitors will step within the enlarged tree and be surrounded by movement and light. Seven interior walls are mirrored faced and fronted by swarms of shining butterflies on motorized cables. 

Each vertex inside the tree is home to a long LED cloud organism, and both the ceiling and floor feature the return of the previous year’s infinity mirrors. The exterior is a blend of last years’ reclaimed wood cladding and industrial salvage to invoke the occult science aesthetics that is the core of our theme this year.

Build:

Infinity Portal (Tree): This immersive portal is built using LED (WS2812b 60/m), 2"x4"x10' Lumber, Hardboard, Steel Bar Stock, and Steel Square Tube. It features intricate mechanisms like Shaft Collars, Pin-and-Block U-Joint, and Resin for butterfly crevice, completed with One way mirror film and EL wire for a captivating appearance

LED Cloud Branches: Constructed using Chicken Wire, LED (WS2812b 60/m), 3 Pin Wire 22 Gauge, and Poly-Fil, these branches offer a magical lighting effect. The clear 2 mil poly tubing roll and PVC Pipe provide the structural framework for this visually stunning display​.

Camera Samskara & Imprint Display

Narrative:

This piece is the center of the Evergardener’s research into the worlds that lie just beyond the veil. We invite Visitors to sit within the Camera Samskara and allow us to capture a psychic imprint for further study. With your contributory consent, samples will be taken of your consciousness to provide further nourishment to this morphed portal center of the Evergarden tree. These imprints are transmitted for observation in one of many Sample Jars until they are humanely processed. 

Description & Build:

This will be our most interactive piece. The main portion of this piece is a modified barber chair that lowers a large box over the participant's head to record a short video for display as a pepper’s ghost hologram in one of the sample jars. These recordings will be automatically edited using Linux Processing to add VCR scanlines and distortion, and replayed on a loop.

Lab Cove & Video TV Wall

Narrative & Description:

At the heart of Evergarden Groves, the Laboratory merges the unknown with technological wonder, turning salvaged video monitors into portals to other dimensions, blending the past and future. Here, the intricately crafted Diorama Lockers offer windows into miniature worlds, each a detailed universe illuminated by LED lights and vibrant colors. Nearby, the Console Station stands as a testament to interactive innovation, inviting visitors to engage and influence the narrative with its advanced electronics and LED displays. 

In Evergarden, you're not just an observer but a vital part of its mystical story, where every interaction contributes to an ongoing tale of enchantment and discovery.

Build:

The Video TV wall is a state-of-the-art console station constructed with remnants of vintage televisions that are able to pickup the alien frequencies that are broadcast on its clandestine channels. 

Spiral Pintographs

Lead: Endswell

Narrative & Description:

The Spiral Pintographs in are a mesmerizing fusion of art and technology. Using UV-sensitive paint and CEDs, these installations allow you to create captivating spiral patterns that appear and disappear under UV light. In Evergarden, they embody the enchanting interplay of light, art, and viewer interaction.

Build:

This interactive installation features 555 Timing Chips, High Torque Motors, Terminal Block Connectors, Potentiometers, and Custom PCBs. The Baltic Birch Ply construction provides a robust and elegant base for this captivating exhibit​.

Description:

Two giant, vibrant  caterpillar sculptures connected by underground talk-tubes that carry sounds from one sculpture’s mouth to the other.

Purpose:

This piece is meant to inspire a change in perspective; to make onlookers feel small in a big world. It also offers the opportunity to appreciate a creature that is often overlooked due to its tiny size. It was such a delight to watch people of all ages become giddy like children upon discovering the giant bugs and their talk-tube abilities.

Upon discovering the interactive aspect of the sculpture, attendees will be encouraged to play, explore, and throw their voice into the void in hopes that another voice will come back in return. 

Build: 

Already built and brought to Hulaween 2023. Attendees at Hulaween responded incredibly well to this art installation. I was told many times by friends and strangers alike that this was their favorite installation at the festival!

Sculpture 1 measurements: 7’2” x 5’5” x 2’1”

Sculpture 2 measurements: 8’4” x 4’2” x 3’8”

Planned Improvements:

This time around, I will be bringing even more blacklights to make sure these guys shine bright from top to bottom. I’ll be adding even more UV paint so they really pop. I also plan to light up the openings of both mouths so that it is easier to discover the talk-tube capabilities at night. Finally, the hairs on the Tussock Moth caterpillar will be replaced with fiber optic LED hairs that glow at night! Cool, right?

Transport: 

This will be packed into the Evergarden Uhaul but will need a wooden frame around them so they don’t get damaged in storage.

Placement:

These sculptures are a part of the Evergarden landscape and tie in to the butterfly theme found in the Infinity Portal (Tree) and the Paperscape installations, and throughout the camp.

Description:

The Evergarden Stage will host a space for pop-up small musical acts, poetry readings, workshops, pop-up performances, and musical comedy hour. St Pete is brimming with a variety of musical, performance, and spoken word talent and the Evergarden stage is the canvas for them to share their art. 

Placement:

This small stage will be located under the big tree along the road in the small cut on the side of the tree where there are significantly less roots. The Evergarden Stage will be no more than 18” tall made out of reclaimed pallet wood. 

Behind the stage sits the Apothem Portal, a motion-mapped interactive mirror & visual backdrop by Devin Constant, a Love Burn Art Grant recipient. When the stage is not in use, participants will be able to dance with and get up close to the portal as it mirrors their movements.

Directly across from the stage there will be space open on the other side of the road within the camp to account for a small crowd to form without causing road blockage.

Eluvium Cove & Projection Ceiling

Description:

In Evergarden's mystical space, Eluvium Cove stands as a fusion of water and light, where iridescent flowing lights weave through vibrant, alien-like foliage, creating a vertical garden. By day, it's a tapestry of colors and texture; by night, this pocket of space transforms into an ethereal landscape. The garden panels' organic light animations mimic water's flow, with luminescent veins diffused through polyfill and polychromatic film, creating a gentle cascade of trickling lights. 

Comfortable pillows offer a space for relaxation, complemented by a custom disco ball that scatters soft, kaleidoscopic light. For a playful touch, an interactive sticker machine dispenses unique cards and stickers, adding to the cove's tranquil yet creative ambiance. Eluvium Cove is a sensory retreat, blending serenity with artistic flair.

In Evergarden, the Eluvium Cove stands as a sanctuary of wonder and comfort, a place where the ordinary is transformed into the extraordinary, inviting you to lose yourself in a world where water and light perform an eternal, enchanting dance. 

Build:

This tranquil cove is built with a unique Umbrella Roof Top and 2"x4"x10' Lumber, featuring waterproof control boxes and toggle switches to ensure resilience in an outdoor setting. A treasure chest holds a projector, creating a mesmerizing visual experience.

Sticker Machine Cards

Description:

The sticker machine involves the printing and lamination of Conversation Cards, Trading Cards, and Adventure Cards, all contained in Cardboard Sleeves. It's a creative and interactive way for visitors to engage with the art and foster community in an intimate space.

Narrative:

Step right up Up UP, if you’re on stilts, of course. Welcome to the Stilt-walker Bar! Share your top story, a heightened moment and elevated conversation amongst other breezy folks on stilts. 

Build: 

Scaffolding or truss will be used for both the bar top and seats. 24” lag screws and an impact drill will be used for anchoring.

Brewed Awakening’s Cubanito Coldbrew is bringing our Coldbrew Elixirs to our very first LOVEBURN experience. Keeping the arts fully caffeinated by offering a full service Coldbrew dedicated cafe , as well as a swap over into a full menu “Espresso Martini” bar with an array of unique flavor variations. Is it morning brew or night time pick me ups? The hours don’t matter! We’re here to put some fire under your dancing feet!

Who are the Evergardeners?

Evergarden is a variegated botanical-grade art village of creators specializing in installations and interactive immersive experiences, and whose collective headquarters are currently rooted in St Petersburg, FL.

This is the FOURTH year that our long-running core group is returning to Love Burn together. Our roster has doubled in campers, 95% of which live in St Pete.

The proximity of our campers to each other will greatly influence our ability to bring this build to life as we will be able to share resources, workspaces and transport, as well as do additional collective fundraising for the myriad of projects that make up Evergarden.

The core cultivators of Evergarden have continued to expand our collective vision by encouraging and mobilizing more of our core members, as well as opening up to welcome new members from our home community of artists in St Pete. Together we will co-create on our camp’s core projects, as well as provide a home to multiple Evergardeners bringing their own fully fledged art grant installations.

The effervescence of the collective creative process has reached an exciting boiling point for all of us and Love Burn is the canvas we are all so excited to contribute to Sparkle Galactica: A Space Opera this year.
