EvenVolume Sites processes media locally in your browser to match the opening loudness of eligible players, repair one-sided audio when enabled, and apply optional website volume settings. On first install, it asks before accessing player audio or site details for these features. Processing stays paused until you choose “Allow local audio processing”.
Information handled
• The extension reads the current page's hostname to apply a saved website volume. It may also read a media element's source URL locally to determine whether its audio can be processed and to detect a source change; source URLs are omitted from status messages.
• During playback, short audio sample buffers are reused in memory to estimate loudness and channel balance. Numeric calibration and recent output readings are kept in page memory while needed for that player. The extension does not create or save audio recordings.
• When you open the popup, it reads the current tab's player status, volume, mute state, route, and recent output level to show whether matching is working. When you choose Measure, it reads status, recent output levels, and frame IDs from supported media players across open tabs, along with tab titles and website hostnames to label the comparison. The comparison is temporary and stays in the browser.
• The extension briefly checks trusted pointer and keyboard events around player volume and mute controls so it can tell your explicit control changes from temporary changes made by a player during a seek or source change. It does not record pointer positions or general keystrokes, and does not keep an interaction history.
• Your switches, saved website hostnames, and volume percentages are stored in the browser's local extension storage. They are not synchronized to an EvenVolume account or sent to the developer.
EvenVolume Sites processes player audio and page metadata locally to provide its media loudness and volume controls. It does not send audio, page content, media source URLs, open-tab comparisons, or browsing history to the developer or another service. It does not access browser history or use analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
EvenVolume Sites uses browser and media data only to provide and support its disclosed single purpose, in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Retention and deletion
The extension keeps your processing choice, saved switches, and site percentages in local browser storage until you clear the extension's data or uninstall it. Reused sample buffers, calibration numbers, and recent player readings stay in memory for the active page; they are not written to disk or extension storage. Page data is cleared when its player record is removed or the page closes. A popup comparison is cleared when the popup closes.
Permissions
Storage saves the settings you choose. Website access is used after your choice to find media players, analyze their audio locally, apply saved volume settings, and measure supported players across open tabs when you request a comparison. Scripting loads the extension's packaged player-control bridge into the page after your choice. This lets the native player slider and mute control keep working while audio is processed. No code is downloaded from a website or server.
Your choice
Until you allow local audio processing, EvenVolume does not inspect website audio, player details, active website addresses, or other tabs for comparisons. If you choose “Not now”, it remains paused. To review or withdraw your choice later, open the EvenVolume popup and select “Privacy choice”. Withdrawing consent pauses audio analysis and saved website-volume adjustments immediately on open pages; your settings remain stored locally. You can allow processing again from the same page, and it resumes automatically on open websites.
