I earned my bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the Armed Forces University, Ecuador (1992), a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1996), and a doctoral degree in Computer Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1999).
In 1999, I was a visiting scholar at the University of Rochester, USA, and from 2000 to 2004, I served as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Computer Science at Rutgers University, USA. I was an associate professor at the University of San Francisco of Quito, Ecuador (2004–2011), and since 2011, I have been a professor at the Armed Forces University - ESPE, Ecuador. I also collaborated as an external professor at King Juan Carlos University, Spain (2015–2023), and have been a part-time professor at UDLA, Ecuador, since 2022.
I am an IEEE Senior Member and a Distinguished Visitor of the IEEE Computer Society. I have participated in more than 20 research projects and authored over 100 scientific publications in recognized journals and conferences, which have received more than 3,600 citations. My main research interests include artificial intelligence and signal processing.
