The most recent championship, held across Europe in 2021 (postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), was won by Italy, who lifted their second European title after beating England in the final at Wembley Stadium in London on penalties.[4][5]

The Henri Delaunay Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the European Championship, is named in honour of Henri Delaunay, the first General Secretary of UEFA, who came up with the idea of a European championship but died five years before the first tournament in 1960. His son Pierre was in charge of creating the trophy.[73] Since the first tournament it has been awarded to the winning team for them to keep for four years, until the next tournament. This trophy bore the words Coupe d'Europe ("European Cup"), Coupe Henri Delaunay ("Henri Delaunay Cup"), and Championnat d'Europe ("European Championship") on the front and a juggling boy on the back.

Before 1980, only four teams qualified for the final tournament. From 1980, eight teams competed. In 1996 the tournament expanded to 16 teams, since it was easier for European nations to qualify for the World Cup than their own continental championship; 14 of the 24 teams at the 1982, 1986 and 1990 World Cups had been European, whereas the European Championship finals still involved only eight teams.

Introduced in 1997, the European Championship crowned its first title holder in a tournament. In the finals, appropriately right in the heart of Europe, in Berlin, Germany, the British Bulldog prevailed over Owen Hart. The championship didn't make regular appearances in the United States, however, until after Shawn Michaels defeated the British Bulldog in Birmingham, England at One Night Only. After Michaels won the title, the European Championship began being defended on U.S. soil more often. The European Championship was retired on April 4, 1999, after Shane McMahon defeated X-Pac, but it was then brought back and awarded to Mideon in June of that same year. The European Championship became a coveted title and was strapped around the waists of some of the top WWE Superstars including the likes of Triple H, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero. But after Rob Van Dam defeated European Champion Jeff Hardy to unify the Intercontinental and European Championships, the European Championship was once again deemed inactive.

Live results can be found here. We'll do our best to update the results as soon as possible during the championship. All scorecards will be double-checked on site, so even though results are provisional, they will be almost 100% accurate.

These requirements may seem daunting at first, but please remember that this is a very big championship and we need to restrict the number of people competing in each event. We suggest that you attend several competitions this year to meet the qualification requirements. Cutoffs stricter than the qualification requirements will also be applied, but everyone who meets the requirements will have the chance to at least complete 1 (6x6/7x7) or 2 attempts (Pyra/2x2/Skewb).

A 3-day warm up competition will take place in Portugalete (next to Bilbao) the week before the Rubik's WCA European Championship 2024 (19 - 21 July). This competition will hold all 17 WCA events, with many rounds and many great opportunities to warm up the week before the championship! Portugalete, Bilbao and Bizkaia are also beautiful places, much more accessible by plane than Pamplona. So getting here the week before and then traveling to Pamplona may be your best option!

All results obtained in this championship will be uploaded to the WCA website for everybody to see! This championship will be sanctioned by the WCA, and the WCA Delegates and Staff from all over Europe will be making sure that the WCA Regulations are followed correctly!

All these regional organizations have offered their support for the championship, including the lease of the competition equipment. The championship is played over eight rounds: The first round starts on Sunday 23rd July, the final is on the next Sunday 30th July, together with the match for 3rd and 4th place.

The first 7 players will win points for the European Grand Prix.

Peelbergen Equestrian Centre is honored to announce the official dates for the 2024 European Jumping Championships for Young Riders, Juniors and Children. The organizing committee has received confirmation from both the FEI and the Dutch national federation KNHS, marking an important milestone in preparations for one of the most important events of 2024. The championship, where the best Young Riders, Juniors and Children from all over Europe will compete on our event grounds, is officially scheduled from July 16th to July 21st 2024.

The risk of injury in football is high, but few studies have compared men's and women's football injuries. The purpose of this prospective study was to analyse the exposure and injury characteristics of European Championships in football and to compare data for men, women and male youth players. The national teams of all 32 countries (672 players) that qualified to the men's European Championship 2004, the women's European Championship 2005 and the men's Under-19 European Championship 2005 were studied. Individual training and match exposure was documented during the tournaments as well as time loss injuries. The overall injury incidence was 14 times higher during match play than during training (34.6 vs. 2.4 injuries per 1000 h, P < 0.0001). There were no differences in match and training injury incidences between the championships. Teams eliminated in the women's championship had a significantly higher match injury incidence compared to teams going to the semi-finals (65.4 vs. 5.0 injuries per 1000 h, P = 0.02). Non-contact mechanisms were ascribed for 41% of the match injuries. One-fifth of all injuries were severe with absence from play longer than 4 weeks. In conclusion, injury incidences during the European Championships studied were very similar and it seems thus that the risk of injury in international football is at least not higher in women than in men. The teams eliminated in the women's championship had a significantly higher match injury incidence than the teams going to the final stage. Finally, the high frequency of non-contact injury is worrying from a prevention perspective and should be addressed in future studies. 006ab0faaa
