Abstract
The public library in the United States is a complex institution because of its multi-purpose nature. As a community facility meant to serve everyone, the American public library is very much concerned with its development in collection and service in recent years. This paper intends to analyze these two aspects of the American public library and to examine their limitations and capabilities.
