Environmental Education project: What do we do and what should we do?

De seguida realizou-se a análise dos resultados desse questionário, tendo daí resultado a apresentação de um PPT e da análise global apresentada pelo google forms.

Survey analysis

This survey was done by our Portugal mates and complete by students from Spain, Portugal, Italy and Turkey. Not only by students which belong to the project but also by students who don´t take part of the project, to get a wider vision of our environmental habits and to involve other students in our project. Furthermore, we make a good diffusion of the project between teachers, families and students from the school.

Most students in the 4 countries are worried about the environment. However, only Italian students have been 100% in a demonstration for the environment. Spanish and Turkish students should improve their participation in demonstrations.

In general, our students think we should protect endangered animals. Moreover, they believe that we can learn a lot from nature, especially Turkish ones.

Garbage is collected every day in the four counties. That means, we should decrease our garbage generation. There are countries as France which only recollects their garbage one a week. There are also environmental movements as zero waste that tries to show people how avoid generate garbage.

The best way to decrease pollution on Earth (soil and water) is decreasing our garbage.

Paper is mainly recycled in Italy. However, Portuguese students’ don´t do it. Consequently, Italian students are using more recycled paper than the others countries.

Spain and Turkey should increase their plastic and glass recycling.

It has been surprising the choice of the best material for our house products: Italian students have chosen wood, Portuguese students have chosen glass and plastic and Spanish and Turkish students have chosen paper. Spanish and Turkish students should analyses their use of paper because it comes from trees. Its use is only sustainable if we are talking about recycling paper. Portuguese should decrease the use of plastic which is really polluted and dangerous for animals.

Most students in Spain, turkey and Italy don´t use water plastic bottles. They bring their own bottle to school. Better if the bottle is made of glass or metal than plastic.

Surprisingly, most students have a compost bin in their gardens. That is really a very healthy environmental habit. On the one hand, they don´t pollute and in the other, their plants and vegetables will grow better. Related to this, most students have planted a tree.

Most students are worried about their water consumption. They have only a shower a day and close the tap while they are brushing their teeth. Only Portugal students admit that they don’t close the tap while their soap themselves when they are having a shower.

The majority of our students take care of their electricity consumption. They use natural light and switch on the tv when they don´t watch it. Except Portuguese students, most students prefer wear a pullover instead of switch on the heater. It could be because Portugal use a lot of renewable energy (solar energy), however Spain, turkey and Italy depends on fossil fuels which are more expensive and polluted.

About shopping consumption, these countries are not get used to buy 2^nd hand clothes but the students recycle their clothes. It is used for different brothers and they give their old clothes to charity. Portuguese students are not get used to buy in bulk and Italy is the only country where they only bring their own bag to the supermarket sometimes.

Although vegan food is topic-trendy, the majority of our students have not decreased their beef consumption. Beef gases (methane) are more polluted than the carbon dioxide emit by cars in a big city for a year.

Finally, Spanish students use preferably public transport and Italian students prefers use their bike or go on foot. Spanish and Turkish students should decrease their planes trip, because it is the most polluted transport.
