Ethics: Lesson 9, Post

Option 1: Post on Poverty and Famine

Peter Singer wrote an article on poverty and it relates to this lesson plan and to the idea of the moral circle in many ways. Here is the article for this post topic: http://schoolforethics.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Singer-Solution-to-World-Poverty-Lifeboat-Ethics.pdf (pp. 1-6)

Key Ideas: What is Singer's position on poverty and famine? (discuss article)

  • Your Thoughts: Do you agree with his argument on the topic of responsibility and poverty? How might the world be if his argument was taken seriously? Give some examples today what you can do personally to live up this his argument.

[Before you answer this watch this amazing clip a student in this class posted in the participation forum...I thought it was a nice fit: GREAT FILM ABOUT CARING (3 min)...even if you do not chose this post option please watch this moving 3 min film on caring.)

Option 3: Be Creative and Analytical

This semester for some of the posts I am allowing students to create their own interesting post question and answer as an alternative to the one(s) I offer. Make sure to incorporate material from the readings and films into it to earn credit and make sure, if possible, to write it up following the same pattern: Key Ideas; Your Thoughts. Label this post option 3 if you pick this one.
