Workshop Objectives
Discussion on cutting-edge themes in the ethics of AIED, particularly those that are associated with identifying challenges and opportunities for achieving learner-centricity.
Exploring strategies for mitigating the negative impacts of AIED on learners, educators, and society.
Deliberating on scalable solutions and best practices for designing and implementing AIED technologies that prioritize ethical considerations and values.
Fostering collaboration and inter-sectoral dialogue among researchers, educators, and other stakeholders to advance the ethical development of AIED.
Potential participants and papers
This workshop is intended for researchers, educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders interested in the ethical implications of AIED. Its panellists and presenters will, therefore, include experts from diverse fields like computer science, social science, moral philosophy, law, and economics; from at least two or more different countries or regions of the world.
Call for workshop paper
Researchers, educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders interested in the ethical implications of AIED are strongly encouraged to submit their work.
We solicit original research or review papers on the topics related to Ethics of AIED that include, but not limited to, following thematic areas.
The impact of AIED on student autonomy and agency
The ethical implications of using AIED for assessment purposes
The role of AIED in promoting diversity and inclusivity
Challenges and opportunities in data custodianship through commons
Understanding ethical intersections, trade-offs, and social cost-benefits in the deployment of AIED
Implications of AIED for inclusive and bias-free education
Length of the Paper & Submission Guidelines
This workshop looks for Full and Short papers that follow the author guidelines of ICCE2023.

This workshop practices a double-blind peer-review process.

All accepted papers will be published in proceedings, which will be submitted to Elsevier for inclusion in Scopus. All papers should follow the paper format of the main conference.

Organizing Committee
Anantha Duraiappah, Director of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP), a UNESCO Category 1 Research Institute in the Asia Pacific. Dr. Anantha Duraiappah has been the inaugural director of UNESCO MGIEP since 2014. He has played a pivotal role in developing MGIEP's AI-powered GDPR-compliant learning platform, FramerSpace, which is now being used across many countries by schools, educators, and learners. A PhD in Economics from the University of Texas. He is currently a Visiting Professor, at the Urban Institute at Kyushu University, Japan, and a former visiting Professor, at the University of Tokyo, Japan. He has previous experience of working in senior positions at the United Nations University, the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Institute for Sustainable Development.
Shitanshu Mishra, National Information Technology Officer, UNESCO MGIEP.
Shitanshu is the head of Information Technology and EdTech research and development at UNESCO MGIEP. His work includes developing and evaluating an AI-based online learning platform FramerSpace, to help learners improve their social-emotional skills. He is a PhD in Educational Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), Mumbai and has worked with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Vanderbilt University, as a postdoctoral research fellow.
Ramkumar Rajendran, Assistant Professor, IDP in ET, IIT Bombay, India. Ramkumar received PhD from IITB-Monash Research Academy, IITB, India, and Monash University, Melbourne. Prior to teaching at IITB, he worked as a research scholar at Vanderbilt University USA and as an Assistant Manager at NEC Central Research Laboratory in Japan. His research interest includes Learning Analytics, Affective Computing, Educational Data Mining, Intelligent Learning environments, Self-regulated learning, MOOC Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing, and Deep Learning. He served as a Program Chair and Track Chair for International Conferences like IEEE T4E, ICALT, ICCE and SIG in LA&EDM at the APSCE.
Kshitij Sharma, Associate Professor, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. Kshitj is an associate professor at the Computer Science department of NTNU. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from EPFL. His research interests include collaborative learning, multimodal learning analytics, machine learning, and statistics.
