An AI Dilemmas Card Game
Â
Ethical Engine: An AI Dilemmas Card Game is an interactive learning tool designed to introduce students and participants to the ethical challenges of artificial intelligence. Through engaging, discussion-based gameplay, the card game encourages:
Critical thinking and ethical reasoning
Collaborative problem-solving
Informed decision-making about real-world AI dilemmas
The game provides a rich, flexible experience for classrooms, workshops, or community settings.
This card game was developed through the CRAFT Co-Design Fellowship with Stanford Graduate School of Education and the Institute for Human-Centered AI. As part of the fellowship, Matt Matilla designed Ethical Engine to help educators, students, and community members grapple with the real-world dilemmas of AI. The project reflects the fellowship's mission to co-create classroom-ready resources that make emerging technologies meaningful and accessible.
What principles should guide AI in making ethical decisions?
How do personal and cultural perspectives influence our views of AI?
How can we ensure AI benefits society without compromising ethical standards?
These guiding questions make the game adaptable for diverse groups and meaningful across different learning environments.
Ethical Engine can be played in small or large groups, guided by a facilitator. Each card presents a unique AI dilemma - from issues of fairness and bias to questions of privacy and accountability. Players must discuss, debate, and defend their choices, sparking rich dialogue and deeper understanding.
A full lesson plan and facilitator's guide can be found here.
Whether you're an educator, student, or community leader, Ethical Engine is designed to make AI ethics approachable and thought-provoking.
